I wonder why ResMed doesn’t offer memory foam cushions for their newer mask! I sure like my AirTouch F20 memory foam cushion mask. How does everyone else feel about memory foam cushions? I think they are super comfortable and wish the F30i had it or at least offer a choice of memory foam or silicone cushions like the AirTouch and AirFit F20 mask do.

I likely wouldn't purchase a memory foam cushion for my F30i even if it became available. I do fine with silicone, & I have heard that memory foam doesn't hold up as well & is difficult to clean, and needs replaced more frequently. I suppose if silicone was giving me a bad reaction, then I would want memory foam. I never tried the memory foam version of the F20 because I didn't like the design of the mask (over my nose & hose on nose), so I didn't explore memory foam cushions. I have heard that people who have used them really like them. Maybe Resmed will make a memory foam version if enough people request it.

and maybe, if a memory foam option for the F30i does become available, I may try it to see if I like it better, even if it has to be replaced more frequently.

I may try out the F30i anyway. Maybe someday ResMed will come out with a memory foam cushion for it. I replace my AirTouch F20 memory cushion about every two to three months.

If you go to cpap.com and sort ResMed's FFMs by popularity, you will see that the memory foam masks are not popular.

I recently purchased the ResMed AirFit F30i Full Face CPAP Mask and it seemed great at home. Then when traveling it was too loud to use. I discovered last night that it is whisper quiet when using my Philips Respironics DreamStation with the humidifier attached. However, my DreamStation travel case requires me to leave the humidifier at home. When connected like this the F30i is really loud, especially out of the port on top of my head. The only setting I've found on the Dreamstation are for fixed or adaptive humidifier, but those seem to disappear when the humidifier is detached. I haven't played with the hose or mask settings yet.

So, the noise is not the vent on the top, but is the sound from the machine traveling down the hose?

For what it's worth I ordered this online (not Amazon...as I feel like the Amazon ones are either used or left over personal products from people).

The site also said it required a prescription. When I asked them about it they simply said "don't worry about it". I thought that was odd.

I'm guessing it requires a prescription because it's medical therapy and if you get the wrong thing it could cause problems for you. I personally don't agree with that, but that's all I can come up with.

Nowhere had ever forced me to have a prescription ale from when I got my actual machine and given the cost of my machine I'm glad 🙂
Thanks. BTW. every DWFF mask I have ordered through Amazon has been factory sealed in Philips packaging. So they were not used or left over from people. Maybe unused and upopened returned products. But not used.

Primarily the vent on the top.

Then why would the vent on top be "whisper quiet" when you use the humidifier?

My husband & I have noticed (because it wakes him up) that if I remove my mask by releasing the magnetic strap, but keep the mask attached to the hose, a hissing sound comes out of the mask/hose depending on how I lay it down. I guess air remains trapped if the hose & mask are kept attached when removing from your face. I now release the hose from the top of the mask (Like I do if I have to get up in the middle of the night for any reason) and it doesn't make that noise. I use a Resmed Airsense 10 autostart machine with humidifier. I have never used my machine without the humidifier, but mainly because I need the humidifier & I don't have a "plate" to plug the hole. If I leave my humidifer out & try to use the machine, it makes a heck of a racket. I am assuming that if you are traveling without the humidifer, you have a "plate" to seal the gap but still get a lot of noise?

After last night I think I was wrong about not using the humidifier causing more noise. I now think the issue with the noise is caused by me not adjusting the straps correctly or ordering the wrong size frame. I tend to toss and turn in my sleep and certain positions seem to make the noise start. Before I was only thinking the only difference between home and away was if the humidifier was connected, but I didn't consider that my headboard at home allows my hose to hang over it.

Without the humidifier the hose connects to the back of the unit. If I use the humidifier it plugs into that back hose connection and then the new hose connection is on top of the water chamber.

oh, you have a dreamstation. Not familiar with dreamstation. I use Resmed Airsense 10 auto set. Never mind!

Where does this mask vent air at?
here's a pic from pugsy's first post in the thread-

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... -face-mask

zoom in and you can see where it vents.
My first post on this board. I hope I don’t mess up!

I used the Resmed F20 since 2017 and had great numbers with it. I tried the nasal pillows to try to lighten the hardware a bit but couldn’t make that leap. I got the F30i because it looked like it had some good features, especially giving the bridge of my nose a break, and after reading this thread I thought I'd share some observations so far.

- the harness doesn’t rub against where the top part of my ears where they join my scalp. Very comfortable.
- where the cushion covers the nostrils is so comfortable that I had to keep checking that it was actually sealed, it was
- I miss the foam cushion mask, but the mask is designed so it doesn’t have to be super tight, but I hope they can do a foam one soon
- I'm a side sleeper so before I bought it I intentionally pinched off one of the two air delivery tubes to see 1) if the other tube alone supplied sufficient pressure by itself. It did. And 2) would there be any noise from the tube if it was pinched a little, a lot, or all the way. It didn’t.
- the venting is less than optimal. From the user guide you can see the two vents. The F20 vent was in the elbow connector and was a gem and completely silent to me and my spouse. These two vents are not loud by themselves, but they put out some serious air, so if the air is flowing directly at something like part of the pillow or the bedding, within a couple of inches or more, it makes noise hitting that. And it definitely can be felt several inches away by another person, or my hand or arm if it’s near enough. In particular, the air from the top vent hits my headboard audibly. I’m tall so I use the whole length of the bed and my head is near enough to the headboard to have the air hit it and provide a steady whoosh. If you aren’t near the wall or headboard this wouldn’t be an issue.
