Do whatever your buddy told you. I just know that my machine will use up half of the capacity of the battery in one night. My testing meter shows our two machines use up half of two Group 27 batteries per night. That's all I'm going on. Your machine may use less amperage.

Both SLeepy-eyes and JeffH'friend may be right.

Neither of you mentioned the AH of the battery.

Also different machines at different pressures draw different current.
I can do this, I will do this.

Here is some info, I found doing a google search for info on deep cycle batteries.

I am not claiming to know what it says. (I have not read it all yet.)

The one thing I did read: Do not use your heated humidifier, it will be damaged. DO not know how true or what circumstances this is true under.

I can do this, I will do this.

The "damage your humidifier" disclaimer is within the instructions to REMstar's instructions............and was also included in my DC adapter instructions. I'll yield to the manufacturer on this one.

Jeff H. Which inverter did you buy from Walmart? They have several at varying prices. Does yours have a model number on it? Sounds like a great idea since we already have the batteries. Our huge generator just isn't cost effective to run all night unless it's really cold and we need heat too.

Sleepy-eyes,

Thanks for reminding us to read the manufacture's instructions. I do not remember what I had read. Since I have not used it in a power failure. I went and put a taped label saying to use the humidifier only with a normal AC wall plate. ( I am sure I would forget in the future.)

Another thing I notced, do not use a battery which produces Hydrogen gas without a excellent ventilation AND do not use that kind of battery if there is oxygen present.

I can do this, I will do this.

Thanks gang, I know a lot more now.
However, I have an M series RemStar CPAP and I am wondering if I just plug its AC power cord into the inverter, or if that hunky power pack that connects it to the machine on one end and the wall on the other is already the inverter and only needs a way to connect it to the battery.
Also, my pressure is set at 15 which means a shorter amount of power time from the battery. Will it still get me through the night (sans humidifier of course)
Barbara

Barbara,

Yes, just hook the inverter onto a battery and plug your CPAP into it. If it is a Group 27 battery, it will last the night without damaging the battery. Differences in your pressure would only mildly effect the drain on the battery.

It's 205 reserve capacity. I didn't ask for anything but they're biggest marine deep cycle battery. I think I paid $72 for it and that was 5 years ago. Luckily, I haven't had to use it much, but it has taken and held a charge every time I hooked it up.

Looks like I need to dust the battery....LOL
