Can anyone help building SleepyHead?

Post by jim22 » Sat Jan 04, 2020 10:19 pm

I know SleepyHead is more or less evolving to OSCAR, but since it has been meeting my needs, and I don't want it to disappear, I am attempting to get it building on my Windows 10 computer. I've got it compiling, but it doesn't link, there are some unresolved references. I could use a clue if anyone's got one. I will post more details if anyone offers.
Thanks,
Jim

Which version of SleepyHead are you trying to work with?
I have been using SleepyHead 1.0 on my Windows 10 computer for quite some time without any issues and I didn't have to "build" anything.
I just downloaded and installed it and it works just fine.

OSCAR is based on SleepyHead...looks and works the same for the most part but there is no urgent reason to use it just yet if you don't want to.
You can have both SleepyHead and OSCAR on the Windows 10 computer if you wish...I have both right now.
Using one doesn't mean you can't use the other.

No, Sleepyhead is dead, murdered by it's creator.

Why?
Oscar is better in every way.

OSCAR is a fork of Sleepyhead, which has been cancelled.

As in, if you discover some bug in Sleepyhead while trying to build it, nobody is going to fix it.

In short, I agree with palerider.

It may be dead, and i'm glad OSCAR is moving forward. Notice i said "building", not installing or running. I am a software engineer, and i have taken on the challenge of compiling and building it myself, mostly just as a challenge, but also to keep it viable (probably just for me) in case it stops running as windows evolves. I'm struggling a little with the build tools, and i wondered if jedi mark was still tuning in once in a while. No worries! I may yet figure it out. The source files are still available at gitlab, and the Qt toolset is still available and still mostly installs on windows 10.

I *build* and *run* Oscar from source.

I suppose some people like to play with DOS 1.0 just for the challenge and waste of time that it is.

Palerider,
Again, I'm glad OSCAR is going forward, my initial interest in being able to build SleepyHead was right around the time OSCAR was getting started and I wasn't really sure it would be successful. What is the development environment for OSCAR? Is it still using Qt? I guess I could go check out it's source code if it's still public.

I am starting to feel unwelcome. I was always taught that if I didn't have something nice to say I should stay quiet. I would extend that to be that if I didn't have something useful to say I should stay quiet. My only interest in this matter is to help preserve our capability to benefit from the data collected by our data-capable machines. My apologies if there are too many hard feelings about SleepyHead, it really helped me when I started CPAP.

Jim

OSCAR is being worked on by several different people working together. I am sure they would welcome your help if you are interested. However, if you choose to continue working on Sleepyhead, don't expect to get help from very many people. When others offered to help Mark with fixing some of the problems within Sleepyhead, he accused them of trying to take over Sleepyhead and cut off all contact with them. At this point, they started developing OSCAR. If you are interested in working with the OSCAR developers contact forum member "bonjour". I think he is heading up the OSCAR team.

I don't do any "building" of anything software related. Just not my cup of tea. If it won't install easily for me and work properly then I just won't use it. So I am zero help. Sorry.

Oscar source code is public is being actively developed and is still using QT There a few hoops to get the development environment running but it’s not too bad

Here is the source code https://gitlab.com/pholy/OSCAR-code

For some reason, I'm not seeing my last couple posts. I did finally succeed in building the final SleepyHead version. Thanks for the help!
