Question on the myAir app

Post by Nthernlgts » Wed Dec 18, 2019 1:56 pm

I’m about 6 weeks in to CPAP therapy. After a discussion with my dr I have been experimenting with a full face mask. That part is going ok, but the myAir app does not seem to measure ANY air leak measurement at all when I wear the full mask. I’ve changed the mask type setting in the options too. The other charts seem to be working fine. When I switch back to the nasal mask it records the leak fine too. Have any of you seen this? Thoughts?

MyAir is lame.

Get Oscar:

You already have a couple of other threads.
Pick one and use it for now. :D

If you were using nasal pillows then you were likely struggling with mouth leaks/mouth breathing rather then mask leaks. (I know I do)
A full face mask covers your mouth so mouth breathing/mouth leaks are not counted as leaks.
Breathing through your nose is generally considered to be the better option if it's possible.(Nature gave us a nose for a reason)

MyAir is more of a motivation tool and a poor diagnostic tool. If you actually want to see true leak data download OSCAR.

Having said that, MyAir reports what the device reports.

If MyAir is sporting considerably less leak data than the machine is reporting considerably less leaks. Be aware though the number reported by my Air is the 95% Litres per minute value.

This means that for 95% of the night your Machine was at or below that number.

One the consideration. You're switching between a Full-Face mask and a set of Nasal Pillows. Are you switching mask type in the machines options?

This might impact how the device reports leaks, as the reported leak is the estimated leak after considering expected venting.

If you want someone to pat you on the head and say "good boy! you showed up!" .... use myair.

If you want to know what's happening while you're sleeping, and get an understanding of what to do to improve your sleep...

Get Oscar.

Yes, I changed the mask type in the machine settings before I used the full face mask. To be clear, the issue isnt that the air leak has dropped (which would be great), its that there is no measurement at all. My question is why??? I have the sleepyhead software and could try oscar as well, but for now I am just hoping someone can answer my question.

Why do you think there must be a leak measurement?

There may not be enough of a leak to measure.

What version of SleepyHead are you using.

Have you tried creating a new profile in SleepyHead to see if the leak rate shows?

Are you not getting the leak graph or is it just always at 0 with the full face mask?

Wear the mask for about 30 minutes while awake and create your own for sure large leak and see if it shows up with the software.

I am using the last version of sleepyhead. Im traveling for a couple days w/o my laptop or I would be more specific on the version. I’ve only been using the full face mask for less than a week. I have not created an alternate profile. The graph that shows the leak rate registers at 0.0 L/min on the days I wear the full face mask. It averages around 15 or so when I wear the nasal mask. I suppose it could actually be 0, but that doesnt seem to pass the common sense test.

No, doesn't pass the common sense test but not impossible I suppose to have a zero leak rate with a full face mask.
That's why I suggest forcing a leak for sure and then seeing if it shows up or not.

Give us some real data to look at, otherwise all you'll get is guesses.

Geez, what is it with so many people being pricks on these threads? I simply asked if anyone else has seen this or if they have thoughts why that could happen? I wasnt asking if anyone thought myAir was lame, or to analyze my sleep data. This is an anamoly. I get it, some dont like the myAir app. Pugsy, my criticism isnt directed at you in any way.
