20M trying to figure out if I inherited CSA from my dad.
Hey all, I've suspected I've had some form of sleep disorder for a while now, I'm a 20 year old male in good shape, I go to the gym for at least an hour 6 days a week and run 5 of those days. My BMI is 23.6 and bodyfat % is below 20%, so I probably don't fit the
normal profile for sleep apnea. Sleep apnea runs in my family however and my dad specifically has central sleep apnea. He got a new CPAP so he gave me his Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset, which I've been using for about a year. I've decided to take this seriously
and started to record sleep data with an SD card the last few months. I've also seen my doctor about this and am now waiting on the call to schedule a full sleep test. I had an at-home sleep test about a year ago, where I was said to have symptoms of hypersomnia,
mild-moderate snoring and my blood oxygen saturation got down to 86%, which he seemed to not think was significant but I continued to push the issue recently. I wanted to share some examples of events I have seen with my CPAP lately.
The following events were taken on a night where I set the maximum and minimum pressure as low as I could, so both were set to 4.0, I wanted to do this to get as close to a baseline reading as possible. As you can see there are two examples of events that appear to last a little over 3 minutes in which I take very few short breaths.
I also appear to go through periods where my breathing cycles from flatlining, to tiny breaths, to normal breathing, and anywhere in-between.
I also see plenty of regular ole apneas where I don't breathe for 8-20 seconds. Does this look like central apnea? I don't exhibit symptoms like waking up with extreme headaches or weird drowning dreams, but I do experience daily fatigue, and can fall asleep basically anytime I want. I also sleep like a rock and never, ever have trouble falling asleep, in fact I usually fall asleep within 10 or so minutes I'd wager. Thanks for any help

To me it does not look like you have sleep apnoea yet as your machine did not raise pressureWeightsNoDates wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:22 pmHey all, I've suspected I've had some form of sleep disorder for a while now, I'm a 20 year old male in good shape, I go to the gym for at least an hour 6 days a week and run 5 of those days. Also you missed the part where he set the min and max pressure both to 4.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:09 amTo me it does not look like you have sleep apnoea yet as your machine did not raise pressure

What was your AHI when you had the home sleep test?

Be it MOM or Dad or Mail Man, if you have Sleep Apnea you need to treat it, anything else is a waste of time and energy and effort!

First of all, you should include the stuff on the left when posting.
Form what I see, I don't think that you have either variety of SA.
Lastly, stop trying to place blame!

What's the best way to collect data with these machines? I slept with my min/max setting at 4/4 for one night, and spent a while skimming the entire night for events like this. A majority of my time sleeping with it my pressure is at 6/14 and recently 7/15.palerider wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:38 amNot a valid test of that.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:09 amTo me it does not look like you have sleep apnoea yet as your machine did not raise pressureWeightsNoDates wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:22 pmThe following events were taken on a night where I set the maximum and minimum pressure as low as I could, so both were set to 4.0,
I see events like the following all the time. And those look like standard apneas to me. I incorrectly guessed that those 3-minute long events were more severe and possibly more indicative of sleep apnea, which is why I put those in the OP.

He made no mention of AHI and at the time I did not know what it was to ask in the first place. From what I gathered it seems that the at-home test neither confirmed or denied that I have a sleep disorder. He did bring up my oxygen saturation getting down to 86% which he said wasn’t a concern, but from what I’ve read on this site you basically never want to get below 88-90%. Reading that is what originally lead me to take this more seriously and gather my own data.

Have you seen the videos here?

I am thinking that some flagged events you are seeing (and you sure aren't having many anyway) are arousal/awake related and thus not related to the airway or sleep apnea.
If you aren't asleep...it isn't sleep apnea. Have to be asleep for it to matter other than maybe being a symptom of poor sleep quality instead of the cause of poor sleep quality.

Oops good point if set to basically a fixed pressure then pressure won’t raisepalerider wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:38 amNot a valid test of that.Jas_williams wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:09 amTo me it does not look like you have sleep apnoea yet as your machine did not raise pressureWeightsNoDates wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:22 pmThe following events were taken on a night where I set the maximum and minimum pressure as low as I could, so both were set to 4.0,
There is insufficient information trying to use an APAP machine to test for obstructive Apnoea nor CSA. Based on the number of events I see no reason to continue using the machine. But I stand by my statement there was too few events so it does not look like you have CSA. But a CPAP machine is not a diagnostic tool for testing for CSA or OSA. An overnight Oximetry test without any machine may be a better test

You have a right to a copy of your sleep study report. I’d advise you to get one.WeightsNoDates wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 11:20 amHe made no mention of AHI and at the time I did not know what it was to ask in the first place.
