Assuming there is interest in my Userid, "chicago" is an alternate word for the "wild leek". I chose it as a play on "wild mask leak". The wild leek is also called "ramp" so there is a double connotation.

I think Smelly Onion Granny has a nice ring to it.

All that being said, the most accepted name origin is the Miami-Illinois word “shikaakwa,” which means “striped skunk” or “smelly onion”. Not exactly a glamorous name origin either way, right? Most historians think that the “onion” version is correct because the Miami-Illinois were known for naming natural landmarks after plants that grew in or near them

I started my sleep study without a mask, which is what happens for everyone U think, otherwise how would they do an accurate test? I apparently freaked my sleep study technician out as he woke me up during the night and slapped a mask on my face. Apparently I stopped breathing way too much, I believe it was 66.8. According to my report. I had an appointment with my DME the very next day. If my apnea was that bad, why am I still alive? How did I survive for 58 years? I didn't realize I was living as a zombie, but I must admit I get a good 7-8 hrs or more of sleep these days. I do feel much better and have more energy, and my husband LOVES that I no longer snore... too bad he still snores. He's retired, so I generally go to bed before him, so as long as I am asleep first, his snoring doesn't usually wake me. I can convince him to take a sleep study, but maybe I can get him to agree to wear a chin strap. Probably not.

Sounds like you had a split study. Some studies are set up so that if you hit certain criteria beforea certain time, they will do the diagnosis and titration in one night. I was 79 in 2 1/2 hours, so they went ahead with the titration. I knew that I was scheduled for a split night study going in. And they fitted me for a mask at the beginning and had me use it for about 10 minutes before going to bed. They wanted to make sure it fit well and that it wouldn't be a total shock in the middle of the night.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

My wife and I use the same PCP, and have our check ups at the same time. I simply told the doctor that she was snoring a lot and would stop breathing when she slept. The doctor scheduled her for a sleep study within two weeks of that appointment. At first, she was upset with me, but once she started treatment and found out how much better she felt, she forgave me.
