Re: Has anybody been told to use a CPAP IMMEDiATELY after a sleep test
I feel like such a wimp.
My initial AHI was only 83 and it took me almost 3 days to get my original S9 Autoset.
But then no one tried to scare me into thinking I would die without immediate treatment. I do believe i received nocturnal oxygen while waiting for my sleep Study since I did get an overnight oximeter test as a preliminary to justify the sleep Study.

Re: Has anybody been told to use a CPAP IMMEDiATELY after a sleep test
Kaiser does everything in a group setting (annoying as hell!)
So after the home sleep test, if you have sleep apnea you are "invited" (read "required") to attend a class to see your actual results and to be instructed in how to use a CPAP machine for a week long titration at home. But I had a pulmonry function test for my asthma a few days after my home sleep test, and the RT saw my sleep apnea scores. After she finished my PFT, she would not let me leave. She went and got one of the titration machines and showed me how to use it, fitted me for a mask, and told me to still attend the class but I was to keep the titration machine until I got my own. She told me I was never to sleep another night without CPAP.
At that time my asthma was pretty bad, and my sleep test indicated an AHI of 78 with significant desaturations. When I attended the class, they handed out to each individual his or her test results to look at but not to keep--we had to request a copy from medical records if we wanted to keep it. On each summary page there was a graph showing a blue line for each minute that the individual wasn't breathing. Most people had white graphs with blue lines here or there. Mine was almost completely blue with very few thin white lines. It did bring it home to me why I need this. Everyone else was to turn their machine in after a week to determine which machine they would receive and at what settings. I had the titration machine more than 1 month, and it was miserable because they didn't use humidifiers with titrations. But yes, I was told to use CPAP as soon as some human saw me and the results at the same time.

They delivered the machine and just told me to use it. I'm not sure whether they had me put on the mask and hook everything up myself. They did verify the setup (was it on a good table, was the electrical set up safe, etc.) They advised me to use a surge suppressor, which is in contrast to my current DME who say to plug the machine directly into the wall (no extension cord). They also insisted that I install a smoke detector, which I did not have at the same time.

Re: Has anybody been told to use a CPAP IMMEDiATELY after a sleep test
I got my loaner machine the same day as my sleep test consultation.
But I couldn't use it immediately because it didn't have a 12 volt adapter to use on my drive home.

I assume that they assumed that a guy like you would know how to use a machine and mask.D.H. wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 2:29 amThey delivered the machine and just told me to use it. I assume that they assumed that since everything was set up on a good table all would go well.
I assume that they assumed that your current DME would correct their very seriously wrong surge suppressor advice.
I assume they assumed that you would do whatever was needed to remedy your lack of a smoke detector.

I'd rather trust your assuming, than D.H.'s "Facts"!
BTW: Lincare warned me to keeo my O2 pump hooked up dirrectly to the wall not a surge protector. I imange they would be even happier of I had it hooked it straight to the grid!

Assuming there is interest in my Userid, "chicago" is an alternate word for the "wild leek". I chose it as a play on "wild mask leak". The wild leek is also called "ramp" so there is a double connotation.jimbud wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 9:51 amThere are 2 places named Chicago in America.
