Sorry - Another Leak Question - Where's it coming from?

Post by Gator5000e » Mon Jul 15, 2019 11:54 am

Lately, I've been getting the AirSense 10 display and the MyAir app telling me that I am having leaks and getting the red unhappy face. I have no idea where the leaks are coming from. I've run the mask test and all i get is the green smiley face even after letting it run for 5-10 minutes. For example, the app is telling me that last night the leak was 102L/min. Saturday night is was 94.8L/min. Friday was 115L/min. Yet on Wednesday and Thursday it was 20.4L/min and 13.2L/min, respectively. That sounds like a bunch of leaks but again I don't know where they are coming from.

I've changed hoses, and replaced my DW FF Mask. I tried a small, medium and MW. I usually use a liner. I can't use nasal pillow as much as I would like to as air will bubble out my mouth after a while.

I was recently bumped by my sleep doctor to straight CPAP (turned off APAP) and a pressure of 16.

Any thoughts on leak investigation would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Running the mask fit thing at the beginning of the night doesn't have any way to account for what happens later in the night when we move around.

Post a typical SleepyHead detailed report please....lets see just when the leaks start.

Ok, I will. I didn't bring my SD card into work with me today. I will look at it tonight. And thanks. I should have looked there first.

This may be controversial (because they're much more comfortable) but it could be the liner. I have some that I never used because they were just kinda clumsy and a bit of a pain to mess with, but I also noticed that while nice to wear, I theorized I could still be having leaks but I wouldn't know it because of the liner, your skin doesn't "feel" the leak, or the little fart bubbles that run down the side of your mouth.
Yay :D For no more diaphragm cramps and dozing off while driving!

It is not unusual to get a good-leak-free fit early on when going to bed...… then getting leaks at night. Your facial muscles will relax at night and leaks may start. Most of my bad leaks will wake me up. Finding and fighting the leaks can be frustrating. As Pugs asked...… post an Oscar graph.

Many people are led to believe that a full face mask will reduce leaks, (lie)
because the mouth and nose are both covered.--but then the jaw drops, and leaks happen.
Better fit and lower leak rates are typical of smaller masks, especially nasal pillows.
Many times, I have awakened with air rushing past my chin.
I am convinced that mask designers have no clue how to deal with human anatomy.

Here are 3 graphs where myAir said I had bad leaks. Thanks for any thoughts.

Those are very serious and extended leaks. It's bad enough that your machine is struggling to maintain therapy pressure.

You might end up needing to change masks.

Turning on your 'Leak Alarm' might provide some insight as well.

Using mine, I discovered that a consistently repeated wakeup-OAs-Centrals event at 3:15AM every morning was triggered by a neighbor's movement-activated yard light

Your results are likely to be less exotic but a few awakenings may tell you a great deal about your sleeping position, and, how your mask is becoming compromised.

How do you turn on the Leak Alarm?

The leak alarm feature is only available on the ResMed bilevel machines....it is not available for the AirSense or S9 cpap/apap models.

Sorry all! I just assumed that since my AirCurve had this
(seemingly basic) feature, all the other Resmeds did too.

This shows once again that:
