Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Hi, I just got an new unconfigured AirCurve 10 ASV. I've had another ResMed before, but I bought that one already configured. I wanted to try out the ASV, so I got this Aircurve 10 ASV. But I need a little bit of help getting the configuration going. My previous settings for an Auto CPAP pressure range were: Minimum 7 cm H2O, Maximum 20 cm H2O with my diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Why would you go to an ASV machine to control Obstructive Sleep Apnea? ASV is normally used to control Central Sleep Apnea. Seems to me it's overkill.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Gold standard for obstructive apnea is fixed pressure CPAP. Any bilevel like asv etc. Can be worse for you and shouldn't be done on a whim.
If you want to try asv
Min epap 6
Max epap 15
Min PS 3
Max PS 15

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
I did this experiment myself on a whim a few years back. Ended up using the ASV for a couple of years because I liked it and did so well with it that I bought a second ASV machine when I found a hot deal I couldn't pass up.
No problems...ASV can easily handle plain ordinary OSA. Maybe a bit of an overkill for plain OSA but that hurts nothing.. Dr Krakow even uses ASV for UARS only patients and no OSA much less centrals being a problem.
It can be done and unless someone goes wildly crazy with minimum PS....won't hurt anything.
Your APAP settings are along the lines of my apap settings.
I can tell you what I ended up using
Auto SV mode
Minimum EPAP 6
PS minimum 4
PS max 15 (I left it there just in case I happened to have a central that the machine felt the need to deal with which did happen on a random occasion)...otherwise my PS averaged between 4 and 5 most nights
I liked it because I got great numbers using a lower EPAP than I needed on apap and it was simply just more comfortable breathing with it while awake. Shear comfort really...awake comfort. Slept better with it too.

If you want to play with the asv, then leave it at factory defaults, except minepap at 7.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Poor fool, they are the resmed guide defaults, except for the min epap 6. The reason I went one under is to see if the min epap 7 was too high.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Thank you all for the help. I'm just trying it out to see if it's going to be more comfortable breathing. The Auto CPAP, which I've used for months, is a little bit uncomfortable, and I am looking to try the ASV out to see if it's a little bit better.
One other question, is there a good guide/video out there to do a walkthrough of how to change the settings?

there is what is called a clinician manual. it can be obtained at apenaboard.com. you click to enter into the forum, then see the tab on top. you make a request then get it via email.jerrycpap wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 10:23 amThank you all for the help. Better to use the pressure the patient is used to instead of inviting more apneas by dropping it without any evidence.

Please stop demeaning people who may have a problem with alcohol. You are trivializing a serious disease. Why so nasty? Even Dr. House had limits to his sarcasm.

Suggest PR list all his disabilities so that the forum can criticize him on these “shortcomings”.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
The purpose of this forum is to help people with a disability, Sleep Apnea. How can a forum with such a noble mission continue to tolerate an individual who attacks others based on a perceived disability. It is time for the forum’s owner and moderator’s to think through the value proposition of having him as a member.
