Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
ENOUGH....stop the crap talking. All of you. I am not in the mood for this crap right now.
Get back on topic please.
If you don't...I won't lock a newbie thread but I will remove all the bitching and crap talk.
You guys can go fight somewhere else but I will be damned if I let you all derail another newbie thread.
Fair warning...I am not a happy camper.
Help the newbie or STFU.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Sigh....why can't people just STFU and not try to get in one last little hidden attempt at being the unofficial forum feelings censor?
Not much gets past me...I saw the subtle poke about "disabilities" and I have smoke coming out of my ears right now.
I need to think on how I want to handle someone ignoring my request to get back on topic.
I need to cool down a bit first.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
read some information pertaining to default ASV settings in the Resmed Sleep Lab Titration Guide https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... er_eng.pdf
I also watched a youtube video from another sleep apnea website that suggested, unlike cpap and xpap, keeping the settings as wide as possible, to allow the machine to have as much flexibility to adjust periodic breathing as the patient might need. (very long video and a bit hard to follow IMHO)

Yes, unlike APAP, which responds very slowly over a period of many minutes to events, the ASV responds breath by breath, and it's reason for existing is to force you to breathe when you don't try to do so on your own (central apnea).SuperDave wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 5:16 pmread some information pertaining to default ASV settings in the Resmed Sleep Lab Titration Guide https://www.resmed.com/us/dam/documents ... er_eng.pdf

For someone with purely central apnea, the default settings on a resmed ASV typically work pretty well, Now, if someone has an obstructive component, then the EPAP needs to be raised to a level to prevent the obstructives.
Make sense?

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
As a new ASV user, it is going to take a little time. My best advise is as follows: Turn off Ramp Up. I have found that the low pressure in the ramp up process only make breathing more difficult. Turn on ASVAuto. Have a fairly high starting pressure, like EPAP 8-11. I use 10. The higher starting pressure makes breathing easier when you are first trying to fall asleep. Have a starting PS of 3-4. I use 4, because in makes the inhale breath less effort. I use 15 as the max PS.
Stick with the therapy and in no time you will get used to it.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
I don't want to hijack this thread but I did buy an ASV to replace my apap on this forum some weeks ago and It literally changed my life.
Maybe a bazooka to kill a fly but before ASV based on the stats of my fitbit charge 2, I had between 35 and 45 micro arrousal each night, now i'm more around 25.
It helped a lot to reduce aerophagia too
Maybe a bi-level could have done the same thing, who know but I know that I feel really better now and that awesome.
I've been able to get used to it very fast..It was hard to fall asleep only the few 3 4 night,

An ASV is a bilevel.
'bilevel' is like 'truck'... but that doesn't tell you whether it's a little chevy S10, or an 18 wheeler... both trucks.
ASV is one of a variety of ventilator subtypes of bilevel. there are also a couple non-ventilator subtypes of bilevel machines.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Oh yes, sorry I know that ASV is a BI-Level but I wanted to say that maybe a VAUTO would have done the same for me. I jumped over it and goes directly to the ASV device.palerider wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:24 pmAn ASV is a bilevel.

I'm wondering what the sleepyhead graph would look for someone that only have OSA .. Hmm, probably like mine since it's my diagnosis but the ASV peeak very often at 25 CM during the night, especially during rem / profound sleep
Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
Dr Barry Krakow routinely prescribes ASV to smooth out respirations and help with those little arousals from whatever.
You might have done just as well with the regular VAuto bilevel and you might not.
ASV can help with aerophagia because it can respond quicker when need to whatever (and the VAuto can't respond as fast) so in theory you can maybe spend less time at the whatever higher pressures are feeding the aerophagia monster. It only goes up when needed and then goes back down quickly. When people have a fine line between aerophagia and no aerophagia..that can come in handy.

I got all annoyingly pedantic about that because a lot of people are confused by the bilevel/asv/other things so I wanted to clarify, if not for you, for others.blacktom wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 12:33 pmOh yes, sorry I know that ASV is a BI-Level but I wanted to say that maybe a VAUTO would have done the same for me. People that have CSA tend to have mask pressure lines that are cyclically irregular, where the machine has to step in, in waves, with more PS. that's not the only thing, but it's one thing to look for.

Re: Resmed Aircurve 10 ASV Configuration
It sounds like you would have done well on a properly set up cpap. Most advise the apaps with too low of a min pressure. For info, on the resmed site, asv isn't classed as a ventilator. The ST and up are.
I think one of my posts are gone. It was telling you the epap 6 ps3 is very similar to apap min 9 epr 3., So what I suggested may have raised your pressure a bit. Obviously what you were told is possibly wrong.
