Attack on Cpaptalk, Sleepyhead, Mark Watkins by Psychology Today
Re: Attack on Cpaptalk, Sleepyhead, Mark Watkins by Psychology Today
We have beat Dr Breus to death in defense of the honor of cpaptalk.com. So much for the tolerance of differing opinions and free speech. Move on to helping people.

~~~ *I* am still holding out for Dr Breus's *mea culpa* and evidence that he has been positively influenced and enlightened.
If he still holds to his opinions then I'd agree that there should come a time where we stop beating a dead horse.
It's crazy how many people confuse right and wrong with differing opinions. I am told that children today are often sheltered from being "wrong" and told that 2+2= 5 is just a "different opinion".
Attacks on optimizing PAP therapy should be answered; lives are at stake.
But does anyone take "info" from celebrity "docs" seriously? Probably not. At least, no more seriously than they take the "info" from network news. It is free lightweight entertainment sprinkled over the edges of endless commercials.
Most "information" today is designed to be like cotton candy. It should dissolve upon contact, impart no real nutrition, and leave a vaguely sweet aftertaste on the tongue/brain.
You just don't have a clue, do you?
Why should ANYBODY tolerate an opinion that is detrimental to the health and well being of every cpap user that reads that column?
I just made another post there as "Common Ground" instead of as "-jnk." Just disclosing that here for the sake of honesty to my fellow cpaptalk forum members.
Every CPAP user? Most CPAP users reading the column are intelligent enough to decide what approach is correct for them.
Well now isn't this insulting. He doesn't seem to think very highly of...anyone but himself?
I tried CPAP and was convinced I would never tolerate it. And I was on auto CPAP the "better technology" he suggests will solve all problems (I don't deny that most auto-cpap is better than most straight CPAP machines, but mostly because they have advanced data). I was seeing a pulmonologist that specialized in sleep medicine. She gave me home O2 to wear at night.
It was only upon discovering this board, Sleepyhead, and buying a used bipap that I found any success.
Common Core Math will teach you 2+2=5, and Dr. Breus probably uses common core health information to back his studies upGrace~~~ wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 1:07 pm
Before I posted here that my reply was missing, I had checked both pages, each twice. Nothing.
Yet I go back today, it's there now. *Shrug*
Re: Attack on Cpaptalk, Sleepyhead, Mark Watkins by Psychology Today
I missed the part where any of us are stopping Dr. Breus from rebutting or using his speech in any way, shape, or form. Last time I checked, none of us here are a governmental body, so the whole "free speech" issue is a moot point, but usually only to those who completely misunderstand the meaning and purpose of the First Amendment. Additionally, the purest form of free speech, since you're inclined to bring it up, is debate, where the response to hateful, bigoted, racist, or downright bad information is a rebuttal of that. That's what we're doing, we're offering a rebuttal of his claims, nothing more.
As a matter of fact, Dr. Breus has a much bigger platform than any of us have, he's the one that's hosted by psychologytoday.com, yet we're the ones "stopping" him from speaking? Give me a break.
Most CPAP users? I highly doubt that. Hell, "most" CPAP users aren't even consistent with the therapy to begin with, and the assertion that "most" of those remaining that ARE consistent, actually know what approach is best for them...well, that's wishful thinking. A "handfull" of CPAP users are intelligent enough to decide what approach is correct for them. The rest...well, the rest just take the Doctor's word for it and do whatever they say, even if it's less than helpful.bombayone wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 7:40 pmEvery CPAP user? And that's the whole point of rebutting the good Ph.D's claim that "hacking" your CPAP is bad. We, collectively, WANT more people to reach a point where they are consistently getting GOOD therapy. Breus's "rules" don't allow for that.
