I am concerned about the centrals also.
Can you turn EPR off?

Yes, I will turn EPR off for tonight and will post charts tomorrow. Thank you, Pugsy!

Hi Pugsy,

I turned off EPR. Attached are last night's charts. I saw a drop in AHI. I would say that my sleep was not nearly as "smooth" feeling as the nights with EPR on. I was more restless and I awoke around 2-ish feeling bloated with air and had to get up and try to expel as much as I could. It was definitely aerophagia. I would say it was not painful, but definitely uncomfortable.

That is looking better, with less centrals, but if you had bad aerophagia and woke, then it is probably not sustainable.

Hi Katestyles,

What do you think would happen if I tried the EPR at 1 instead of "off"? I guess the Centrals would just rise more again? (I had it at 3 previously.) Maybe Pugsy will have some thoughts on this too.

Hi Pugsy, I don't remember being awake until about 2:15-ish. That is when I got up and had to do a lot of burping to try to expel the air.

I will try EPR at a setting of 1 tonight to see what happens. I will post the chart tomorrow. Thank you!

ps. I am also a Missouri girl. Or was. I was born there and lived there until after university days.

You might nIot have remembered being awake but you might have been sort of half awake and the bulk of that stuff flagged up until you woke up could maybe simply be arousal related junk flags. The aerophagia causing you to be uncomfortable and got worse until you finally woke up fully. You can have arousals and not remember being awake.

I also don't know what to make of the hyponeas later...turning off EPR effectively raises pressure a bit and should have dealt with the hyponeas better.

Let's see if we can find a happy compromise between using EPR that doesn't cause centrals but still gives you the comfort you need.
I know a woman who gets something like 20 centrals an hour with the equivalent of 4 EPR (she uses a bilevel machine) and with PS of 3 she gets maybe 1 an hour. 1 cm difference gives a big result. So not impossible.

Sounds like a plan. EPR at 1.

I hope that will help with aerophagia- my aerophagia, which was awful to begin with is now mostly gone.

Thank you Pugsy and Katestyles, It is so wonderful to not feel all alone with this now!

Hi Pugsy and Kate - Posted last nights results with EPR at 1. I didn't have an aerophagia problem. I was restless last night and was aware of some arousals. I got up once to go to the loo.

What do you think of the chart compared to the night before with the EPR off?

Have you watched Jason’s videos explaining how to use SleepyHead and zoom in to the flow rate and decide if the flagged event was a real asleep event vs arousal/wake related flag?

No, I wasn't aware of the videos, but I will most certainly watch them. Thank you very much, Pugsy.

I watched Jason's videos and then took at look at last night's chart with his instructions in mind. It looks to me as though most of those Centrals might not be real. It appeared to me as though there were some arousals or something before them. It didn't appear as though they were happening while I was in a sleep rhythm. I might be wrong, but that is my best guess after one viewing of Jason's explanation.

That would be encouraging, because it would bring your AHI down - but it means that something is waking you constantly in the night - doesn't really matter if it is the centrals, a full bladder, or a train or airplane passing - it is the awakenings that trash our sleep.
