Post by lbaer » Mon Feb 18, 2019 12:39 pm

Does anyone have a ResMed ResScan™ Smart Card Reader for S8™ and S8™ II Machines that they do not need?

The S8 card is larger than the SD card and requires a special reader..The sites you show are for S9.

This is the only place I found still offering the S8 card reader. Even EBay is sold out right now.

I get the sense that the OP is wanting one for less money and hoping to find someone here with one in their stash drawer not being needed.

I hope nobody buys those ridiculously priced SD card readers when you can get one from Amazon for under $10

you're saying it's JUST a usb to sd card reader? like the one i carry around in my bag to get my pics from my camera to my tablet?

Yes, it's just a plain usb/sd card reader, with "ResMed" silk screened on it.

when I was looking for a card reader for my old S8, I found it confusing to be sure I located the proper card reader and card. I learned the s8 used a different card than the s9 and later machines. also, here is an interesting post from years ago that relates to the card reader: viewtopic/t33851/ResMed-S8-Autoset-Card-Reader.html

Zonker, yes the s8 card was proprietary in size. Here's a photo of the smart card, laying on top of a standard chipped credit card.

There's a lot more information in this post from 2009: viewtopic/t38260/ResMed-Card-Reader-differences.html

Actually, normal 'smart cards' are just like the new chipped credit cards. The older Respironics M used those, I've got one around here somewhere, as well as other systems used (and still use) smart cards. My notebook as space for a smart card reader on the opposite side from the SD card reader.

Not sure exactly what Resmed was using.

The ResScan 5.5 Clinician Manual says the following:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
... "ResScan Data Card Reader
If using the S8 series, S8 II series or VPAP Auto with ResScan Data Cards, you may need to
install a driver for the ResScan Data Card reader. You will need a ResScan Data Card
Reader—USB (Product code: 22207; or ACR 38U Smart Card Reader). " ....

However, at this point in time, its unclear as to which ACR 38U Smart Card Reader would work to read the ResScan Smart Card and
also which ACR 38U Smart Card Reader would work with the ResScan Software on my Windows OS PC.

CPAP.com no longer sells the ResMed ResScan™ Smart Card Reader (Product code: 22207) for S8™ and S8™ II Machines.

Thanks for the offer SuperDave. I may well have to take you up on your offer, because
I do not believe there are any new ResMed ResScan™ Smart Card Reader for sale anywhere.

Ibear, see the threads below. As noted, early manufactured ACR38's will work, but one will be difficult to find. The short answer is that you need a non CCID ACR 38U with firmware version FW 110 and serial number beginning with R000 as opposed to R052. There are a few other models of the ARC38 with differing physical profiles that will work, but I don't have serial number info for them.

I have looked for my old card readers, but I can't find them. I'm not one to throw out useless stuff, so they're probably stuck away someplace for safe keeping. I'll keep looking and if I turn one up, I'll let you know.
