It might be easier to just upgrade to a more modern machine. Definitely better.

I'll second that...

If your machine still uses those old cards, getting something quality that uses a modern SD card would probably be even easier then tracking down one of those old card readers and getting it to work with your OS. If I remember correctly, getting my old card reader to work was a bit of a PITA compared to how difficult something like a card reader should have been to get working. It wasn't impossible but not fun.

I still have mine floating around somewhere - I keep running across it when I'm cleaning out old computer junk - not sure why I keep putting it back in my stash of Stuff, maybe for times like this where someone might need it. That's what I keep telling my self, though the problem is that the stuff I hang onto like this will show up all the time and get in my way when I'm looking for something else, but the moment I actually need it try and find the thing I've been hording all these years it'll some how disappear as if by magic and I'll never be able to find it until I finally give up and stop looking for it. Or worse yet, gone out and purchased a replacement, then it will magically reappear just to taunt me.

I wish you luck in your search for the old smart card reader but you may be better off getting a modern CPAP, [second hand, if money is an issue] that uses the standard SD card reader. There some really nice machines out there with low hours that can be had for really amazing prices if you look long enough.

Rest well,

Gryphon

And I will third it.
Even if you do obtain a card reader, you won't be able to see a Flow Rate Chart, Flow Limitations, or even discern between Obstructive and Central apneas.
The S9 Autoset is a great machine and should be able to be had for an affordable price.

I fully agree I'll have to upgrade to a newer machine. But for right now I need to get as much info from existing CPAP machine. Do do that, I need a reader to read my ResMed ResScan Data Card. However, I give thanks to everyone for their feedback. I really appreciate the help and advice.

You have some data available on the LCD screen on the machine. It's limited but it's a start...do you know how to get to it and what it says? You can get pressure and leak and AHI and even a little breakdown of the AHI. It doesn't flag centrals at all so in terms of flagged events you get OAs and hyponeas.

The data that is shown by using ResScan from the S8 machines is not nearly as detailed as the data available from the S9 or other newer machines. About the only benefit from seeing the graphs is you can see when the flagged events happened and duration.

What is going on that makes you want to see your data using the software?

Thanks Pugsy for the offer to help. I have a ResMed S8 AutoSet™ II CPAP Machine, and I'm familiar with getting info off the CPAP machine without a smart card. However, with the ResScan Smart Card I'm able to get AHI/AI, Events, Flattening (Needs S8 ResMed Link attached), Flow (L/sec) (Needs S8 ResMed Link attached), Leak (L/sec), Minute Ventilation (L/min) (Needs S8 ResMed Link attached), Pressure (cm H2O), Snore (Needs S8 ResMed Link attached), and Usage. In addition, with the ResScan Smart Card I can get 180 summary sessions and 4 detailed sessions.

It’s possible that the following non-CCID Readers, like the ACS ACR38U - SAM (Secure Access Module), or the ACS AET65 1 SAM ICC Reader or the ACS CryptoMate reader, can read S8 ResMed ResScan Smart Card. However, I sent the manufacturer, Advanced Card System LTD. an email requesting verification about these readers. If ACS indicates clearly that they have Smart Card Reader to read the S8 ResMed ResScan Smart Card, then I can try to get a smart card reader from ACS. But ACS informs me that all their non-CCID Readers are at end of life, then I will have to find attempt to find a used ResMed ResScan smart card reader.

Ibaer, have you tried Contacting Second Wind CPAP? They are still selling S8's. It might be worth a shot.

2 forsale on ebay now. found by searching "acr38" on ebay.

Also, the drivers for the card readers are available with the resscan software, which can be downloaded here: https://www.resmed.com/us/en/healthcare ... sscan.html

Hi Super Dave. I'm new to all this. Found this thread cuz my intro was being ripped off by buying a resmed S8 that the seller told me the smartcard was all I need. I have no reader. Can you help me?

I'm newly registered so can't PM yet.

Not sure if you're still offering this up, if so I'm definitely interested.
Thank you
