How to be able to fall asleep wearing the damn thing?!?
Re: How to be able to fall asleep wearing the damn thing?!?
Thanks for all your help.Sporadically has been the problem. Im approaching it now as a necessity for both my physical and mental health. That becomes part of the problem as I now get very stressed out when things dont work. Maybe i need to try waiting til i cant keep my eyes open before putting on the mask and trying to sleep. I'll be more diligent wearing the mask in the evening while i watch tv or read.
Its a ResMed model # 37018. I dont know the setting because the display is broken and I'm looking into getting it fixed. All I know is the original settings worked at first, but maybe not now. If my sinuses are a bit congested I can breath through my nose but once i have the mask on and the thing running the resistance to exhaling is too great. Its on auto ramp so the pressure increases once Im asleep

there are many different types and manufacturers of masks. if you'd like, you can go here-
https://www.cpap.com/
and check the masks there to see which one may be yours.
good luck!

Re: How to be able to fall asleep wearing the damn thing?!?
Harryo, glad to see you back. Nasal congestion is usually a function of humidity--too much or too little, and everyone is different so you have to find YOUR sweet spot. Do you know how to adjust the humidity on your machine (difficult if the display is not working--is this new or used?). If you are able to adjust it, try turning it down by 1 setting and try that for a few nights. That will either make it worse or better, or neither. If it makes it better, keep adjusting humidity (ONE setting at a time) downward until it's not bothering you anymore. If it makes it worse, then go the other direction.
Before you go to bed, practice good "nasal hygiene". Blow your nose and then you might try using a saline nasal spray to really clear it out. Some people use a saline rinse or netti pot.
When you look for your mask, there are three main types to narrow down your search:
1. Full face masks cover your nose and mouth
2. Nasal masks cover only your nose
3. Nasal pillow masks don't cover your nose, but they have nasal "pillows" that sit up against your nostrils.
There are variations from there, but your mask should fit in one of those broad categories. Now look for a logo indicating the brand name. It may be on the mask, the cushion/pillow, or the strap. From there you can search more efficiently for your mask to let us know what it is so we can offer help. For example, you may have a "ResMed nasal mask". Sometimes you'll even find the name of the model on the mask somewhere.
As for sleeping, especially since it is the weekend, you might try this. Mask up and lie in bed listening to music or podcasts or relaxation recordings (use earbuds if you have a bed partner). Don't try to sleep. Don't watch the clock. Just work on listening and relaxing. You may find that you fall asleep when you are not trying so hard. And being very tired helps, too.

Maybe you can snap some photos of the machine and mask and we can help you figure it out. Drop them to a free site like pasteboard or imgur then link them here.
My nose gets stuffy with the humidifier on most of the time. I usually only use it during the winter when the air is excessively dry. I put water in the chamber, though, so when the wind blows over it, it gives the air just enough moisture to be comfortable but not so much that my nose gets stuffy. That might be an option for you to think about as well.

I don't give advice, I only tell of my experience.
I do relate to your problem. I hated using this thing, I would fight it, I would wake up at night wrapped up in the hose.
it was hard to get use to. It took me a month of use to be comfortable with it at night. I don;t like things on my face. But stick with it for a month and see if you are not sleeping better

OK. I dont understand the quotation feature yet.... It is a ResMed Mirage Micro mask (it took me a while to figure that out). I might need a larger soft nose part (whatever they're called) I have a big schnozz and it seems to press uncomfortably on the bridge and underside of my nose- the cartilaginous part below and between my nostrils.

A saline rinse is a good idea. Will try as needed.
The past 2 nights Ive been wearing the mask for a 2 or 3 hours before bed to get used to it. I wait til I'm really tired before going to bed and try to just relax. Ive been able to fall asleep with it on , but when I wake a few hours later to pee I cant get back to sleep with it on. Small success so far. Gotta start somewhere.
