"Harryo, glad to see you back. Nasal congestion is usually a function of humidity--too much or too little, and everyone is different so you have to find YOUR sweet spot. Do you know how to adjust the humidity on your machine (difficult if the display is not working--is this new or used?). If you are able to adjust it, try turning it down by 1 setting and try that for a few nights. That will either make it worse or better, or neither. If it makes it better, keep adjusting humidity (ONE setting at a time) downward until it's not bothering you anymore. If it makes it worse, then go the other direction. "

OK. I dont understand the quotation feature yet.... It is a ResMed Mirage Micro mask (it took me a while to figure that out). I might need a larger soft nose part (whatever they're called) I have a big schnozz and it seems to press uncomfortably on the bridge and underside of my nose- the cartilaginous part below and between my nostrils.
I can't adjust the humidity til I get the damn thing fixed. But thanks for the suggestion!
Getting it fixed or getting another machine should be a priority. If you can't adjust the settings or even see how it's set, it's not going to be very useful for getting it comfortable for you. Yes you may need to try other masks. Took me a long while and I went through many masks to finally find a couple I can sleep with all night. Don't give up, you will get there and it will be worth it. It also takes time to catch up on your sleep. Took years of using it before I finally felt like I was not tired during the days.

I don't now what you mean by the model of the mask. It covers all of my nose.
Did you want more details??
Maybe you can snap some photos of the machine and mask and we can help you figure it out. Drop them to a free site like pasteboard or imgur then link them here.

My nose gets stuffy with the humidifier on most of the time. I usually only use it during the winter when the air is excessively dry. I put water in the chamber, though, so when the wind blows over it, it gives the air just enough moisture to be comfortable but not so much that my nose gets stuffy. That might be an option for you to think about as well.
The machine is ResMed model# 37018 the mask is ResMed Mirage Micro
Airsense 10 CPAP. If it were me, I'd get one that is capable of full data rather than spending money to fix one that isn't.

I don't know hat full data is. This is the first Ive heard of it. The setting were ok at first but youre right , I might need to tweak them. Also, getting a new machine at this time isnt an option- I dont have coverage for that and I dont have the money for it.

Thanks. I was able to sleep 4 hours with it last night. I did a saline rinse of my sinuses before bed, and I might have used too much salt because my nostril became irritated (this happens sometimes) and I had to take the mask off.

NO!

You want a Resmed AirSense 10 AutoSet or a ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet For Her.

There are cheaper models that are CPAP only or do not collect the data to help.
The "AutoSet for her" model has an extra program that helps some people, regardless of gender/\.

Note that I wasn't recommending that machine, I was telling the OP what model he has. He was listing a model number, which isn't very helpful, so I looked it up for him. He says he wants to get that one fixed, but I felt it would be a waste of money since it's not capable of full data.

I have heard that secondwindcpap can help people who can't afford to get one. At the very least they might be able to get you something that allows you to adjust the basics like humidifier setting, pressure and so on.

The pressure can be adjusted on the machine he has. His machine also has an integrated, adjustable humidifier.

Yes. When the display works it tells me how many hours minutes I slept with it on , and other useful stuff that I cant recall

He has said at least a couple of times now that the machine's display is broken and therefore he cannot adjust anything. SMH. Why do people not read the whole thread ???

I don't give advice, I only tell of my experience.

I do relate to your problem. I hated using this thing, I would fight it, I would wake up at night wrapped up in the hose.
it was hard to get use to. It took me a month of use to be comfortable with it at night. I don;t like things on my face. But stick with it for a month and see if you are not sleeping better
What if it is 3 months later and still cannot sleep with it?

Try sleeping on a wood bord like it is the only bead you have except a cold wet stone floor. You will get used to it. Try to wear it before you go to bead.

The display got broken on a trip, frikken baggage handlers. Anyway, for now I can't adjust anything. I'll get it fixed asap.
A saline rinse is a good idea. Will try as needed.
The past 2 nights Ive been wearing the mask for a 2 or 3 hours before bed to get used to it. I wait til I'm really tired before going to bed and try to just relax. Ive been able to fall asleep with it on , but when I wake a few hours later to pee I cant get back to sleep with it on. Small success so far. Gotta start somewhere.

Yikes, you learned one of the rules the hard way. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER check your CPAP. It's carry on luggage and it doesn't count in your limit because it's medical equipment. If you dig around here you can find a copy of a tag you can print out that states it's medical equipment and quotes the federal regulation allowing you to bring it on board without counting in your carry-on limit. Don't let a baggage handler anywhere near your CPAP, ever.

You are making progress. Keep on keeping on. My first goal was to be able to sleep through the night with the mask on, and it took me three months of hard work to get there.

One of the reasons you may be needing to get up to pee is the sleep apnea. With OSA, we don't sleep as deeply and tend to be more easily awakened by pressure in the bladder. Once you are able to sleep longer with the mask on, you may find you need to get up less frequently to pee. Of course, if you have prostate issues, that may override this benefit.

Well, here's an idea that I don't see above. The first night I tried CPAP it didn't work for me, either, couldn't go to sleep. I'm a light sleeper at the best of times, and my sleep is easily de-railed. Decided to give Ambien a try...my sleep doctor was all for trying it. Used it for a week, got decent sleep with CPAP, and then stopped. At that point, my body was used to sleeping with the CPAP going and all, so it's been fine since then. Never been really happy to be using it, other than the health benefits.

It isn't Ambien per-se that's important, use whatever sleep aid works for you. I didn't have side effects from using Ambien for a week, other than lighter sleep the first day off of it. Which I expected. Have heard of people having odd side effects from Ambien, though.
