Apneas Super High in the Morning Once Machine "Resets" For the Day
Apneas Super High in the Morning Once Machine "Resets" For the Day
So, I have been using the ResMed AirSense 10 since May. My apneas, for the most part, have been in the 2-3/hr range with a few little blips here and there.
I've always had a problem with the machine "resetting" to the new day while I sleep because I usually go to bed late and sleep in late. However, for the past few days, whenever I wake up, the apneas are registering 10+ for only about 1 hour worth of "extra" sleep for the new day. Because of this, it's raising my average apneas on the machine as well. When I'm starting a "new" day with 10+ for 1 hour of sleep and then getting another 6-7 hours of sleep, it's raising my average to 4+.
For example: Yesterday, I woke up and the machine said something like 10 apneas for maybe 1 hour of sleep. Then, I went to sleep last night, woke up with almost the same numbers and amount of sleep (because of the reset), but on my app it's telling me it was still lower (around 4).
Has anybody else experienced this? What do I do? This only started happening recently and I don't know why. I haven't done anything differently and the fact that the apneas are still registering lower the "next day" tells me that I can't possibly be having 10+ an hour.
Help!

The machine rolling over to another day doesn't have anything to do with how many events you're having. higher AHI is caused by sleep issues.BDP87 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:32 pm

Do what the announcement post (Newbies, read this before posting) says, fill in your equipment, get sleepyhead, post some charts.
(you may want to change the 'day split time' on the file/preferences/import tab so that SH doesn't split your 'night's data)

Change the clock on your machine so that the noon reset period isn't a separate part of your sleep session.
Night shift workers on cpap do it all the time so their session is in one big chunk on one report instead of 2 days.

It doesn't seem to add up though, because after the next day of sleep my apneas go back down to more of a normal range. I find it hard to believe I'm suddenly having 10+ in one hour and not every hour. Doesn't seem right.palerider wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:42 pmThe machine rolling over to another day doesn't have anything to do with how many events you're having. higher AHI is caused by sleep issues.BDP87 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:32 pm

How do I change the clock setting?
Re: Apneas Super High in the Morning Once Machine "Resets" For the Day
There's a clock available for setting in the setup menu area.
Go get the manual and it will explain how to get in there and change the clock.
It's in the menu area where the run hours and software version is.

Ok, so I figured out how to get into the "Clinical Settings" but it appears that all I can do is change the time, not set it in such a way that it doesn't reset at a certain time.Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:58 pmThere's a clock available for setting in the setup menu area.

The machine starts a new day/session at 12 PM or Noon per the machine clock.
When you sleep past Noon that is when you get the separate session with AHI specific to that separate session.
What you have to do is change the clock so the machine thinks noon is some other time than it really is.
A lot of shift workers will move the clock 6 hours ahead...so if it was Noon in real life the clock says 6 PM.
Actual start and stopping of the machine won't be accurate but 8 hours of sleep is 8 hours no matter what time it says you started and stopped.
It's the only way to not have separate sessions when you sleep past noon in real life. You have to make the machine think it isn't noon.

That's why you need to do this -->
I'm concerned you will change the clock, and that will cause you to overlook a problem in the one hour.Do what the announcement post (Newbies, read this before posting) says, fill in your equipment, get sleepyhead, post some charts.

I have downloaded Sleepyhead before but I do not own an SD card which I need in order to use the software. One did not come with my machine. All my data is sent directly to my doctor.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 3:22 pmThat's why you need to do this -->I'm concerned you will change the clock, and that will cause you to overlook a problem in the one hour.Do what the announcement post (Newbies, read this before posting) says, fill in your equipment, get sleepyhead, post some charts.

Could the reset have anything to do with the spike? I haven't changed anything different except for getting new equipment (tubing, etc.). My sleep schedule is the same. What could suddenly be causing such a spike out of nowhere like that?Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 3:02 pmThe machine starts a new day/session at 12 PM or Noon per the machine clock.

Could using a different tube affect something? I noticed that when I was given a new tube with my order last week they gave me a different one than the one I had previously owned. Could that be affecting the pressure or something else?
Re: Apneas Super High in the Morning Once Machine "Resets" For the Day
If you got a different diameter hose than what the machine is set for it could very definitely be affecting the pressure.
There's a setting in that menu for hose diameter and you have to set it for any non heated hose.
When you use a heated hose the machine will sense it and make necessary selection for diameter.
All other hoses you need to verify hose diameter and the setting.
If your machine is set for slimline hose...that's 15 mm but if your hose is 19 or 22 mm...it can affect the way the machine does things.

Re: Apneas Super High in the Morning Once Machine "Resets" For the Day
I am unsure if what my previous one was, but it was an all clear tube. This tube looks like it might be one of the "insulated" ones. It's more gray in color and is definitely not the same one. Is there a way to change the setting to the new hose?Pugsy wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 3:41 pmIf you got a different diameter hose than what the machine is set for it could very definitely be affecting the pressure.
