Machine Noise
Re: Machine Noise
Some of you might remember the S9 bird calls...unwanted noise.
Newbies won't know what I am talking about. If you are bored and need to have a reality check...read this.

Some people are just more sensitive to noise of any kind than other people.
I experienced the bird calls but only after someone pointed them out. My brain ignored them until it was pointed to them.
Here's the deal...the spouses/bed partners shouldn't be hearing them. I would hear the hooty owl but my husband wouldn't be hearing a damn thing and in fact I often would get a poke in the ribs to wake me up and him telling me to "put on your mask and use your machine" and in fact it was on and I was using it. He heard nothing. After enough of the poke in the ribs I explained how to put his hand over may face and feel for the vented air to know if the machine was on or not.

Normal. I think your's is quieter than mine.
Re: Machine Noise
How close to the machine was the microphone?
Do you have a smart phone? Download a free app for measuring sound decibels....place your phone next to your machine.
See how much it changes with the noise.
Plug your ears with your fingers...tell me if the noise level is reduced, increases or stays the same.

Re: Machine Noise
Slept with wife for fist time in 5 years, although now zero snoring, the machine annoyed her through the night
I feel like I'm on a ventilator #pissedoff as I already swapped the machine out ????
We both hear the dumb machine
Pugsy?

Re: Machine Noise
You'll both get used to the machine in a few days. It becomes part of the background. I can take mine on and off during the night, and it doesn't disturb my wife. Now if I try to sleep without CPAP I'm bothered by the silence.AHI88 wrote:Slept with wife for fist time in 5 years, although now zero snoring, the machine annoyed her through the night

Re: Machine Noise
Put the machine lower than the surface of the bed, it'll help mute the sound.

Re: Machine Noise
My machine makes just enough sound to take the edge off my tinnitus.

I can't hear mine over the sound of the central AC.chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 6:36 pmMy machine makes just enough sound to take the edge off my tinnitus.

Re: Machine Noise
Ear plugs work for me, despite other people maintaining that they amplifying the internal sounds for them. Of course, I was sleeping with ear plugs before cpap, since I tend to still be sleeping later in the morning than most, when it's noisier. Thinking about replacing the bedside table with a multi-shelf bookcase-style piece of furniture, and putting the cpap on a lower shelf. That should help as well, getting the cpap below bed level *smile*. Need a longer cpap tube, of course, but seems like a good trade-off.

Re: Machine Noise
I got a new ResMed A10 3 months ago, exchanged it because it was noisy, and got one that was less noisy but still noisier than my first machine of the same model 2 years ago. The noise is a a low-pitched hum that occurs when I'm NOT inhaling.
I discovered I could greatly reduce the noise by starting the machine pumping air, then for a split second sliding out the humidifier chamber just enough to leak air and then pushing it back in. It's worth a try.
(This suggests the noise is coming from vibration of the seal at one of the two air ports of the humidifier. Maybe a supplier substituted a cheaper part.)

Re: Machine Noise
That sounds terrible. I'd demand a replacement under warranty.
