Machine Noise

Just checking if you should at all hear your machine.

My theripist was kind enough to replace my machine with a new one, BUT I CAN STILL HEAR THE MACHINE WHEN I INHALE.

So I'm guessing this is normal which sucks.

I've paid 1100usd out of my own pocket

Is it just me, I would love your opinions.

Can your wife still hear it?

It's normal for some of us to hear some inhale/exhale noise. Not normal for spouse to hear it though.

Did you ever read that link to RobySue's blog about conducted noise that I gave you in your other thread?

If you hear it and she doesn't...there are some things you can do to lessen the annoyance and believe it or not you can get to a point where you can tune it out.

It depends on your hearing. I can hear mine somewhat if I'm laying on my right ear, but not on my left. My wife can hear it even though she is farther away, but it doesn't bother her. The noise seems to vary a bit based on how much water is in the reservoir and what the humidity settings are. It's a machine with moving parts, there is going to be some noise. The current generation of machines is much quieter, so I would personally feel silly complaining about it much.

i can hear mine. i have a noise generator (white noise) and it masks it very well.

i've also noticed on nights when i don't turn on my noise machine, i find the sound seems to reduce to almost nothing after a bit.

mind you, i can't describe the sound it makes any more than you can describe yours. so i don't even know if we are talking about the same noise!

We don't really notice either of our machines making noise. Of course, once we take out our hearing aids, we don't hear much of anything.

Note that your machine has "exhalation relief." That is, the pressure will let up slightly when you exhale. If you find this annoying, you can turn it off (or set it to zero). I think that will make your machine appear quieter.

Haha, you should try an older machine... the new ones are very quiet, by comparison.

so, you're saying there is a bright side to being deaf?

You might find foam earplugs helpful. I used them at first but quickly found them unnecessary. I still use them on the occasion that my wife snores. I can't get her to consider a sleep study.

When someone asks me to do something, I can ignore it and blame it on my hearing aids. Works very well with my wife.

Just get a spare machine and strap it on her, sleep study not required.

My wife would not consider having a sleep test done, so I simply waited until our regular check up and "just happened to mention that she snored a lot, and quit breathing in her sleep". Our doctor scheduled her for the sleep test. She was not happy with me at the time, but she now uses her machine every night and admits she is feeling better than she did before she started using it.

She won't consider that either. She can't imagine sleeping in "that monstrosity". She can be a little dramatic.

My wife's snoring is only occasional, and I don't hear her stop breathing. I realize that is hardly evidence she is not having interruptions. She'd never heard mine, and I was having 30+ per hour. She sleeps well and usually feels well rested, so if she has a problem it is probably a minor one and/or occasional one.

My ResMed A10 machine is silent while I inhale, but makes a constant hum while I exhale and during the quiescent period between exhale and inhale. Exhaust pressure relief is set to 2.

Has anyone else experienced a hum during exhale rather than inhale? If this is abnormal I'll ask the DME to replace it.
