Hello all...
So I have had my machine literally a week. I have mild sleep apnea using a airsense 10 with auto setting 5-15 and a nuance pro pillow mask.

I was wondering when the refreshing feeling comes? I literally slept from 930-915 today that’s insane! I feel like I can’t get out of bed. Before the machine I was just tired all day and now I am struggling every day to get out of bed. Why is this? Has anyone else had this problem in the beginning? Also wasn’t sure if anyone had some advice for a stomach sleeper?

welcome to the zoo. stick around and you'll get plenty of help. people here seem to know their stuff. with their advice, you'll soon be dialed into your therapy.

we are all special snowflakes, though and don't react in the same way to our therapy. there is no such thing as a set time for when we start feeling the benefits of cpap. some claim right away (i don't believe them) and some say months or any time in between.

right now, your body and mind are getting used to this whole thing. it takes time to adapt. and you are paying off a "sleep debt", though some say there is no such thing.

this isn't like a magic pill that suddenly makes you feel wonderful, though the sleep doctors will tell you differently.

here are some limited suggestions i can make-

turn your lower pressure up from 5 maybe up to 7. almost everyone i've heard from on this forum can't sleep with such a low starting pressure.

get a hold of the free software, sleepyhead. NOTE: at this time, this is software, not an app. so needs to be run on mac or windows. i don't have a link to this software, but someone will come along shortly and supply one.

using this software, you will get plenty of data organized as a graph. taking a picture of this graph and posting it here will let the experts here see what is going on and make suggestions to improve your cpap experience.

finally, pleas continue to post in this thread and not start new ones for at least the first month or two. there are a lot of people here asking for help and it helps US to keep you in one conversation so we can have all your details to hand.

good luck!

Unsure

Post by npariseau » Thu Aug 02, 2018 9:17 am

Feeling pretty discouraged! It’s been almost three weeks and I am waking up so hard, it’s worse than before I got the machine. I upped my lower setting to 7 that seemed to help for staying asleep. I just don’t understand why I am waking up so tired and all I want to do is sleep!!! I was so tired of this feeling before the machine I was praying I would get some relief I realize it will not get better over night but I thought a little relief would show itself. I downloaded sleepyhead and I have no clue what I am looking at. I do know I have been waking up at night still but I am not sure how many times. Do I just need to be more patient?

An excellent reason to follow the tips on how to set up your charts and take screenshots to post to the forum. Folks can help you go through data to make it easier to understand.

Sometimes posting your data can help others look and provide help.

Here is what is needed...

again, it's going to take time to adjust. it's a long journey and you are at the earliest steps. BUT! do take the advice of others who have responded. sleepyhead is going to help those here help you.

i'm not fluent in sleepyhead; not by a long shot! all i've ever done is get it together enough so that i could construct the graphs, make screenshots then post them here. i don't know much about what the numbers mean. yet i've followed the advice of those here that do and have fine tuned my therapy.

you can too. follow the link on hosecrusher's response and start in. it may take some time before you get it squared away but that's okay. you'll get there, sooner or later.

good luck!

As a newbie, that's not your job. It's our job. Your job is to get some charts up in this thread, so we can help you. ---> viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html

Don't get discouraged. It's common to start out with various problems and CPAP settings that are far from optimized. We can help when we some some charts.

Questions for you....do you take any medications of any kind and if you do..what?

You say you are sleeping lots of hours but are you waking up often during those hours? If so, approx how many and how long do you stay awake?

I do take meds not to help sleep tho, I take celexa at night and naltrexone in the am when I get up. Last night I fell asleep at 10 and woke up at 915 this am. I am waking up but it didn’t seem like long periods to me. I will go aheAd and try to get some screen shots up. I do struggle with depression so I know that may be some of my issues

----------------->

... study shows that depressive symptoms are extremely common in people who have obstructive sleep apnea, and these symptoms improve significantly when sleep apnea is treated with continuous positive airway pressure therapy.

You've probably had sleep apnea for a long time. It's possible sleep apnea was the cause of your depression.

Wow I did not realize the correlation between the two! That would be amazing if it helped, it must be my body is just going through a lot of stuff with now adding the machine.

IMO, it would be amazing if CPAP did NOT help with depression.

But first, we need to see if your CPAP therapy is working effectively.

This is last nights data, I just feel that if it helps with depression symptoms that would be a relief.
