First night without power Uggghhh
After getting solid sleep with CPAP for almost 6 months, I had my first night without power. I am so dependent on this machine to sleep. I am so tired today. I am still paying for the machine and can't bring myself to shell out the $500 plus needed for a back up battery. What do you guys do when the power goes out?
Re: First night without power Uggghhh
The Freedom Battery is on sale for $250. www.cpap.com has it.

Backup solutions start at about $100. Much depends on the type of protection you need (10 minutes, 10 hours, 10 days?) and your settings.dreamingofdreaming wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:19 amAfter getting solid sleep with CPAP for almost 6 months, I had my first night without power. Please don't start out recommending high priced "solutions"Cardsfan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:24 amThe Freedom Battery is on sale for $250. www.cpap.com has it.

Dear Cardsfan, I saw on the forum that you have access to DreamStation Go Clinical Guide. It would be great if you sent it to me , would be very grateful.Cardsfan wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:24 amThe Freedom Battery is on sale for $250. www.cpap.com has it.

Thanks for the link. I have read that before, but really can’t understand it very well. I like the idea of a lithium batter connected, that automatically kicks in if the power goes out. I really only need it for one night at a time. I live in a city, where I’m not usually out of power for more than a few hours. Or I have access to go to somewhere that does have power and charge the battery.CapnLoki wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:34 amBackup solutions start at about $100. I use a generator when the power goes out, but isn't the Dreamstation 12V? For just a night, a lead-acid battery would be cheap. You could keep it float-charged on the balcony/porch.

Yes, the Respironics machines can run on ordinary 12 volt dc current.
Occasional use can be covered fairly inexpensively.
CapnLoki is the resident guru here on power supplies,
as he spends a fair amount of time off the grid.

Get a scooter battery, get a charger, get the 12v cable. power the cpap from the battery with the 12v cable, put the charger on the battery.dreamingofdreaming wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 3:21 pmThanks for the link. You've basically built a multi-day silent uninterruptable power supply for your cpap, for hundreds less than a 'cpap battery'.

Any 12 v cord or is there one that's is made for my Machine? Also is there a specific charger? I don't know a lot about this. I really need specifics.

Re: First night without power Uggghhh
On the link I gave you, about 12 posts down, is a description of a basic, but robust system. It has links to all the parts - the battery, a high quality charger, and one extra cable. The DC plug has to match your pump - our sponsor cpap.com has it for about $30. Assembly is literally bolting two color coded "rings" to the battery. This will have enough power to run with humidity for a full night, or without humidity for 4-5 nights, and will cost about $120 - its the "bang for the buck winner!"dreamingofdreaming wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 6:34 pmAny 12 v cord or is there one that's is made for my Machine? If this all seems too complex, the cheapest quality battery pack I've seen is the Goal Zero Yeti 150
https://www.amazon.com/Goal-Zero-Portab ... B00CWBABRM
This has about 40% of the power in my system so you won't have enough to run a full night with humidity and heated hose. You'll also need the 12V cord.
With this, and most systems, you want to charge it every month of so, and hook it up during an outage. If you have frequent short outages, your might want an "uninteruptible power supply" or UPS. This you would plug into 24/7 and you system would continue to with no fuss - you might never know there was an issue. However, its only enough for an hour or so, depending on your settings.

Re: First night without power Uggghhh
Thank you for taking the time to explain this. I think I can figure out the scooter battery. I don't need to ug it in all the time. I can just have it ready for when power goes out. My husband has a charger already, I I think I just need the adapter cables.
Re: First night without power Uggghhh
The charger I recommend is the BatteryTender which come in three sizes and includes a battery cable with a plug that matches the charger output. The only accessory needed is the addon "cigarette socket" that also has the matching plug so its possible to plug in in the dark. Since the small charger is only $26 its a good buy. Any automotive battery will work, but you'll have to figure out the cabling. I keep my big car charger with the big alligator clips in the garage, and the BatteryTender in the bedroom.dreamingofdreaming wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 6:25 amThank you for taking the time to explain this. No slam for womanhood. Male or female, I just didn't understand the battery post.palerider wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 9:13 amSeriously?
