Alright, I think that this is getting a little silly. I was also being very smartmouthed regarding our Registered User Guest. I think a little sarcastic remark here and there may ocasionally be rather funny (considering the context of the original posting here), and I believe the intent was to give a wakeup call the the original author.

What I find shocking here is that someone would have the nerve to insinuate that they could be speaking for me!

I would not have been as offended as I am by the tactics being used here had the original posting here been started with a comment more like 'I believe/think and I believe/think that others in the forum feel this way too.....' Nonetheless, requesting that no one be allowed to post incognito while posting incognito......go figure.

I personally feel that any actual name calling is not called for (a little friendly bantering amongst trusted friends excepted and accepted.)

Please let us not forget why we are here. We all benefit from the shared knowledge and experiences of each other. We are here because we need or at least at some point in time, needed help. We also need a few laughs now and then and should it occasionally be at my expense that is fine with me.

Tricia: who is in desperate need of a few hours of undisturbed sleep and desperately needed to rant.....Thanks All of You

To the person who started this thread---

I started looking at cpaptalk when another sleep forum I posted on (talkaboutsleep.com) decided to restrict posting only to people who are registered and I didn't like that. I am more comfortable here because for me personally I agree with the philosophy of the freedom of allowing guests to post. It sounds like for you personally you would be more comfortable with a forum where guests are not allowed to post. Everybody has their own personal preference.

You might want to check out talkaboutsleep.com because it makes more sense to go to a place that already has the rules you want and where you will be happy, than it does to stay in a place that doesn't have the rules you want and where you're not happy. That's what happened to me and I'm so glad I switched to a place where I feel more comfortable. To each his own.

Best of luck to you.

I just came across this medical report - go down to the 4th heading and read the data there.

http://www.athealth.com/consumer/disord ... cohol.html

Some may read it and understand why some behave as they do. It is
very sad.

Thank you dsm, I agree. Sleep deprivation can do this too.

I spend most of my time 'punch drunk' from lack of sleep. I ocasionally make comments about drinking but in actuality do so very rarely (once, tops twice a year) and then only early in the evening and then only half a glass. I am a single mom with mixed apneas who inherited this to my 7 year old. Tristan is on a monitor (since birth) and so I have not had a single night of sleep since he was born. Every now and then (if lucky twice a month) we do have a night with only 4 to 6 alarms but instead of sleeping through I tend to jerk up in bed responding to alarms that only occurred in my imagination. I can not afford to have a drink - I'm scared to death as it is that I might sleep through an alarm.....

Alcohol and other substance abuse is in reality NO LAUGHING MATTER. I am sorry if I have given the impression that perhaps that could be a factor here and am very grateful that you would be concerned enough about myself or anyone else to provide that link.

I do still need an outlet for my strange and twisted sense of humor so I shall continue to enjoy an ocassional imaginary stiff drink.

Some thoughts on posts made here re to guest or not to guest.

Some posters have repeatedly raised the issue that there are people who have a right to post as 'guest' in order to protect their identify - the usual reasons being given to justify this position are that it may relate to the persons work or profession or whatever.

I understand the good intention of the posts but the facts don't actually match the perception. Anyone can register here and remain 100% anonymous. How ?

- obtain an email address e.g. twelfthimam@gmail.com or yahoo.com or xyz.org.

- register with cpaptalk and use whatever name you want (e.g. Muhammad al-Mahdi or I-12 or whatever) and ony supply your newly acquired email address.

- By now, probably only the president of Iran might claim to know who you really are

I can assure you that anyone following this simple advice will be as invisible as the twelfth Iman. The point here being that anyone can join cpaptalk and no one would ever know who they are, or what they are, or even where they are.

(for those with enquiring minds and the will to expand them ... google Twelfth Imam )

If any aspect of this posts offends anyone, please accept my promise that none of it was intended to do so. ((Amuse greatly, -- yes ))

This certainly has proven to be a "Study in Human Behaviour"

Few of your remarks were pertinent - many were off topic and malicious, which is the point I was trying to make.

I didn't say that I was speaking for "YOU", but other, unnamed users!
I chose to be the one to take the flack for this entry.

The sane posts have merit, and I am sure that the person for whom this was intended will make his decision on those posts.

The rest of you had knee-jerk reactions to a subject not even intended for you.

Sure, we'll just continue on the way we have; so be it.
I am not as crazy as you would like to believe...is that the only way you can justify YOUR sanity? And why would one pick THAT word, instead of just saying you are WRONG?

This has been extremely interesting reading. Even if I was WRONG in my request, the posts following it showed both (too few) intelligent posts, and far too many personal attacks and mean spiritedness....which was my point in the first place.

So, thanks for revealing yourselves!

Snoredog is, unfortunately, helpless.
Hey, why can't I get in an attack, as most of you have?

Although I WILL STAND CORRECTED, I'm wondering how long this thread last, to suply a space for you to vent and attack? Have at it, and continue to have FUN!

i like this threatening part:

gee how much did you spend on that chin strap? I wonder now how they will ever be able to pay its light bill with the loss of your purchases.

I personally would like to thank registered user for posting in the first place. The responses have been unendingly entertaining, and overwhelmingly supportive of the forum.

This is such a good forum despite the negativity that surfaces from time to time which will occur in any facet of life. No need to let a few "bad apples" spoil the whole barrel. This forum has made my struggle with my "new way of sleeping successful" whereas I feel I would have given up without all the insight I gained from the experienced posters here. Johnny, the administrator, has a tough job with the delicate balance of keeping spam to a minimum while permitting great freedom for posters. As users of the forum we have to realize there's always going to be a few that want to destroy the forum for everyone and we just have to be willing to glean the good and delete or scroll past the "bad" just as we do with our own personal e-mails that we receive on our computers. Our new motto can be to "Let the good win over the evil".
I pray for continued success of the forum and for everyone in their sleeping struggles to be successful and blessed.
"God bless us everyone!"
