Camping or being away from a reliable power supply

Post by randyyo » Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:00 pm

Hello all,

I am new to the CPAP world and am very thankful to be able to read the collected wisdom of this group. I have had my machine (a ResMed S8 Elite) for a little over a month now and find that my world has changed. It is wonderful to be able to go to work in the morning and not feel as if I had just finished the graveyard shift.

I have done a search on this forum and have not found much on the topic of camping or a night away from a reliable power supply. I am looking for ways to take my machine camping. I have read up on batteries, pure sine wave DC inverters, etc. What I am unsure about is the effectiveness of the setup. Do I go down and buy the largest capacity battery I can afford and hope for the best? What about the battery packs that are sold on Cpap.com? Do they work as well as their price would indicate? Any help on the matter is appreciated.

Thank you,

Randy

Hello Randy,

Glad to hear you are doing better.

What kind of camping are you planning. If you have a car near by I would suggest what you have or one of the other products on the list.

Can you get a 12V convert for your CPAP, what about a new CPAP?

If you search for power failure, battery back up, camping etc, there are many post, options, homemade stuff, and stuff way above my level of understanding.

What I have at home (easiest to use for me) and can be taken, somewhere where if you are camping by car, (it is heavy). Can be used for many things. I have it charged and can use it whenever the lights go out. I am thinking of keeping the APAP pluged into it all the time and this thing to the house outlet. It fits in my closet but do not know if it will emit fumes or what happens if lighting strikes etc?

I hope the links work.

There are many options, check this out. It is Canadian, but can give you ideas.

I can do this, I will do this.

My disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, nor have I ever worked in the health care field Just my personal opinions.

Thanks SelfSeeker,

I used your suggestion and found more information than I did previously. I also found information to help here at home in the event of a power outage. This is a great site.
