Stay with XPAP treatment, when you live long enough the button will appear, if the site still works.

Take a look at the part below that says who is logged in... FORUMADMIN is on the case.

Hope this ends soon, I tried to delete a bunch last evening too but it was useless, I couldn't keep up .
Fingers crossed....
Nan

I wouldn't mind if the forum were read-only, for an indefinite period.
At least people who NEED help could search the archives, and read .

Johnny,

Thanks a lot for supporting the forum and taking measures against the spam. I'm not sure if these postings are actually coming from Korean IP addresses. It looks like you have a handle on the new ones, but you have a big mess to clean up!

First post, but lots of experience with forums...

1) Shut down guest posting
2) Verify all new users. I just registered and I didnt have to verify my email address... that should be done, regardless. Bots rarely can cope with a verification process: if the address is spoofed, it will be ignored by its real owner. If its a fake address, the verification wont even get where its going.
3) Plugins to stop the a-holes from disrupting the board. Bad Behavior and Akismet work with SMF, hopefully also with phpBB.

Hello, everyone

It looks like you are making excellent headway on it.

Many, many, many thanks. Believe me when I say it's appreciated by all.

Thank you for all you do for us XPAP users. Like most, I have learned a lot here on the forum. It has made my journey much easier and made it possible for me to take control of my own treatment.

There is one positive we can get from this situation. The forum is about 10 years old and many of those who registered did so to solve a problem they were having. Once the problem is solved they don't post again resulting in a large member group but a small number of active members. This is an opportunity to clear out a lot of the mess. It's done by simply asking all of us to reregister, using a much more secure system than what is in place at the moment including e-mail verification. and, as mentioned in a previous post, a simple check box that has to be checked before a post can be made. It's just one extra click of a mouse and it's bot proof.

Members have queried why this is happening. It would be well worth IT checking for any malicious script that may have left behind. It could be easy not to check as you spend time and effort clearing the bot posts. I have already run a detailed malware check on my Mac in case opening the posts to delete them left me vulnerable. I suggest that you all do the same. I found nothing but then again it is a Mac and PCs may have been targeted.

This was not caused by a virus on their server, and forcing people to reregister isn't necessary, in my opinion as the admin of a phpbb forum that experiences constant attack that is warded off by custom software I wrote.

Just want to say thanks to Johnny and all who are working to clean up the mess. I have found this forum to be very useful as I learn to cope with apnea and the use of my apap to treat it.

Good luck,
Jean
