You've got it... 'a single policy' (essentially).

Trump nominated Betsy DeVos and she was confirmed today. That will absolutely, positively affect my grandchildren, therefore affecting me! It will eventually affect everyone who voted for Trump too, altho I'm sure you'll have a come back as to why it won't. Waste of time to name a 'policy'... you love 'em and I don't. I hope she doesn't fall over a grizzly bear... lots in her area.

Well, kudos for almost getting the quoting right. Good effort. Otherwise, you can keep your condescension. (You're correcting my awareness of proper grammar, of all things? ) And, pray tell, what "wild rumors on the internet" am I listening to?

As to your thoughts on the matter, here's a little fact-check for ya: Nobody here has offered a "solution" to fix my election-induced insomnia besides telling me that I should just stop being aware of what's happening and, therefore, stop worrying about it. Yeah, that's viable... As I said before, impeachment will fix it. Until that happens, I'll continue to fight on and take the consequences re: sleep.

Those of us (all over the world) who see him and his cronies as the threat they are continue to protest for no good reason, huh? Are the millions who are marching just overreacting? Or maybe they're getting paid so much to protest that they can't resist taking off work to march in freezing temperatures. Yeah, that's gotta be it.

Empathy and compassion are obviously in short supply among those of you who aren't remotely concerned about the thin-skinned and temperamental baby-man in the WH. I feel sad for you. But here's another fact-check: NOTHING about this is normal, and just ignoring it doesn't make it go away.

P.S. I don't care for the way you've presented yourself here, but I am very sorry that you lost a child. (<--- See, that's empathy.)

I'm condescending when I give you kudos? Oh, okay. I won't let that happen again.

Yes, please don't go on and on and on. I don't get you (and others like you) at all, and I wouldn't want someone like that as a friend. But don't cry for me, Argentina, and go on about your business as usual because all's well with the world...

I never said that my empathy is helping me sleep; it's the problem. Doh! (But I see you're having trouble understanding what this thread is about, so it all makes more sense now.)

I didn't ask for suggestions, but was there even one here that doesn't equate to becoming purposefully ignorant? (Nevermind. I already know the answer.)

Not necessarily a situation that's totally out of the realm of possibility.

Take note in the article that it was the reason the big, tall chain link fence was built at this school. (the one DeVos was thinking of)

Whether we agree or not with the choice of president, or that somebody us upset with thechoice of president; the issue is still the same.

Some type of stress is causing a sleep problem, and the actual stressor will not change anytime soon.

I had a similar version of this when I had a manager who was breaking rules left and right, not happy with me for disagreeing, and it became a hostile work environment for about 2 years. I didn't sleep well. I woke up sick almost every work day (that she also worked), and I would start my shift feeling sick. It was physically wiping me out.

What kind of advice did I get? Transfer stores. really? I had worked there over 15 years. I could walk to work. I should change stores, start over with a whole new crew, AND have to pay to and waste time taking the bus to work? I am stubborn. I was there first. I have seen people come. And I have seen people go. I decided I would outlast her.

In the meantime, I needed a strategy to stop being sick, and to not go crazy. I decided to go with the concept of going to my happy place, only I took my happy place to work. My cats bring my joy, so I practiced at home, having my cat sit on my shoulder and memorizing that feeling. Pretty soon, at work, I could feel him sitting on my shoulder. And I felt better. I also took some photos with me that I could look at and relax. I also played happy music on my way to work. For example, Shania Twain's "Up" was a good one for me.

One day., I got a really good laugh as I realized that this is basically the concept in Harry Potter with the dementors. You fight them off by thinking of a really happy thought, and it pushes them away. My boss is a dementor! LOL.

Strangely, after about 2 years, we finally got along. She realized I didn't want her job, nor was I trying to get her fired. I just wanted her to follow the important rules that dealt with food safety and also to treat employees right. It got better, and years later, we both still work together, and we are good friends. Go figure.

Hopefully, this will help a bit. You can't change what is stressing you, but you can change how it affects you sleep. It could be a bad boss, financial problems, an illness like cancer, a pending divorce, or even a president that you don't like. The solution is basically the same. Focus on a way to push it away, quiet it, not focus on it ALL the time. You can't turn it completely off, but you can limit it. Take control over how you feel.

Well I have some advice for a possible solution (though probably most are unable to understand it).

As some of the old timers may remember, I raged against the GOP's criminal wars and government for corporate greed during the first couple of years I joined this forum. When Obama stated before he even won the election that he would adopt the Bush administration's Wall Street bank bailouts, I became very disillusioned with the entire US political process as I realized that participating in our so-called democratic republic was a mean joke played on the populace by the wealthy elite. We are basically kept in a state of political divisiveness while they harvest our wealth, liberty, and future. So I quit participating and stopped voting because basically, it makes no difference for people like us. The same was true for protesting. I went out into the streets to protest the first illegal Bush war of the 90's and again with the baby Bush wars. Although I was very much against Obama's illegal wars too, I didn't protest anymore because I knew by then it was just a waste of time and energy.

So ..... Have you considered gardening? It makes the world a better place and you can make it contagious for others too. It relieves stress and provides top notch nutrition. You can share with your family, friends, and neighbors ... even strangers!

Arizona? You should check out Jake Mace's garden ... a food forest in the desert! From bare desert dirt to food forest in just 5 years.

No need for buying fertilizer. All he did was acquire organic waste (coffee shops, grocers, and restaurants) that he prevented from going to the city dump and composted it. Then he covered it up with a couple of feet of wood chips which were also headed for the dump ... all free. Soil microbes then took over turned it into fertile soil and the plants turned it into top notch nutrition. It's like nature's magic!
