I am concerned that newbies may believe bad information from guest posts.

better to refute them than ignore them.

of course, the pesthole will get nasty when contradicted, like happened with that nonsense about humidity and antibacterial filters, but the bs does need to be corrected, for the sake of those that don't know better.

Yes. And if you just can't ignore the inevitable flame from the pesthole, put your own response that's in reaction to the flame from the pesthole HERE instead of in the thread.

I hear each and every one of you...no one ever said it would be easy.
It's easy to be ugly and it's real hard to bite your fingers to keep from being ugly...trust me...been there and done that and the times I yielded...it actually left a bad taste in my mouth.

Keep telling yourself...attack the message...not the messenger
and when I say "attack the message" I mean with civility. There are ways to correct misinformation civilly. Just takes a couple of minutes of thinking ...and cooling off. .. before we engage the fingers.
It's hard not to respond to ugliness with more ugliness right back at them. I fully understand it...I have the same gut reaction that you all do. Do I always succeed in tempering my response...not always but I do try.
It takes at least 2 to start a fight...remember that we all know that so and so is being a jerk...there's no need to keep pointing it out and adding to the ugliness.

And AMEN Robysue...I just saw your post when I hit submit.

Maybe it is time the forum HAD a moderator, at least someone warning/booting as needed to clean out the trolls and senseless debate. Pugsy, it sounds like you have at least enough interaction with the forum to know what is going on and when it is going bad. I vote for you for Sheriff - because someone has to care enough to do the job. If people are getting flamed in simple request for information posts - someone has to draw some lines and potentially put out the trash.

While I truly appreciate the vote of confidence.....let me say this.

No, no, no and hell no. So don't even go there.

What I am hoping is that each and every one of us will do our own moderating.

IMO that isn't going to happen, which is why I endorsed kteague's thinking. I can't imagine anyone who when fired up and wanting to respond, clicking off one thread and trying to find another.

well, I believe it only takes one. that right cross to the jaw usually does a pretty good job.... verbal or physical. continuing it does take two though.
