time for new machine but so many options
I've had my current cpap (resmed) for almost 6 years now and its time to get a new one. I currently pull the memory card out and copy the files to my computer to use sleepyhead to analyze. I was curious if any of the new cpap machines have wireless or bluetooth or something so that the information could go over automatically without me having to pull the card out and copy data. Also, I'd love to get a smaller machine this time since I travel quite often and its a pain to lug around my big resmed.
Lastly, I only use the cpap half the time as the other half I use my zquiet which actually works better but the push out of my jaw makes me talk strangely at times. So I alternate the use.
Would love to hear recommendations on machines.

Re: time for new machine but so many options
Sounds like you have a ResMed S9 machine.
You can do the wireless transfer of data with it (and other models that use the SD card) by using a special SD card in the machine.
See this page down at the bottom for more information..under "transfer data from cpap machine".
https://sleep.tnet.com/equipment
The newer models do have some sort of wireless communication but it is for very basic data and doesn't involve SleepyHead at all. Respironics offers bluetooth and ResMed offers a wireless transmission to their web based program. What is shown is pretty much what you can see on the LCD screen. No detailed data on the web based programs.
You might look at the ResMed AirSense 10 machines....they offer a smaller footprint than the S9 has.
As far a those tiny travel size machines....can't use SleepyHead with any of them and for sure no wireless transfer of any data. Some you can't use a humidifier with or the footprint get you right back up in size as the other machines or they don't use a humidifier at all which might be a deal breaker for those that need added humidity.
Lots of drawbacks..noise, data or not, etc....and only plus is the tiny size.

Re: time for new machine but so many options
great info, thanks. I should have mentioned that I don't need the humidifier at all. I never fill mine and it doesn't cause me any trouble. I also use the nasal pillows mask which works for me pretty well.
So the wireless SD card you think might be the best option for transfering data? Man I wish they would just have bluetooth built in so I could pull all the data automatically to my computer and have sleepyhead show me the graphs. I hate downloading stuff manually.

Re: time for new machine but so many options
If you are wanting to use SleepyHead for the detailed data the wireless card transfer thing is the only way it can be done. We have several forum members doing it. Takes a bit of work setting up the (must be that very special card) SD card but once that is done they don't have to do anything except call up the data to Sleepyhead.
I never bothered with it myself because it was just more work than I wanted to do and I don't mind pulling the SD card.
If you want to use SleepyHead...and the wireless card thing....stick with ResMed or Respironics for more comprehensive detailed data.
Actually I would stick with ResMed since that is what you have been using for so many years. It's a great machine and you are used to the way it does things. The other brands have different ways of doing their job and you might not like the way they do things as much.
Look at the AirSense 10 though...it is smaller even with the humidifier because of how it is made.

Re: time for new machine but so many options
would love to get an autosense 10 autoset but not sure my insurance covers it. Going to ask my doctor he can specify it. I assume the autosense comes with the SD card port that I can put the wireless card into? Anyone know?
Re: time for new machine but so many options
insurance doesn't care, they pay the same amount whether apap or cpap.allennosleep wrote:would love to get an autosense 10 autoset but not sure my insurance covers it. there's no such thing as an 'autosense', if you ask for the wrong thing, you may get the wrong thing, it's AIRSENSE 10.
yes, it's got an SD card in it, yes, you can use the wifi one.

Re: time for new machine but so many options
I will add one more vote for the AirSense 10. In my experience the transition from the S9 to it is virtually seamless. How it responds to events feels much the same to me. In addition to the smaller footprint resulting from the integration of the humidifier, it offers significant improvement in control interface for the user. It allows you to select from two levels of access to commonly used settings without going into the clinician menu (essentials & essentials +). Another benefit, though many might consider this trivial, is its use of the same filter as the S9 - consequently, if you have a substantial stock of them, they won't go to waste. Pugsy authored a brief guide to the various models within the AirSense 10 series - it would serve you well in comparing.

Re: time for new machine but so many options
the air10 line, except for the new Autoset for her mode, is pretty much just the S9 turned upright... the programming of how it behaves is the same, the blower inside is the same, etc. it's pretty much just a physical redesign of an already excellent product.JimW159 wrote:I will add one more vote for the AirSense 10. Re: time for new machine but so many options
What ever you decide to buy I would stay away from the Resmed S9™ Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier because it has these components that are likely to fail after a few years of use.
On my 5 years old humidifier:
When I open the top cover of the humidifier then the cover comes off its hinges in the back, completely:

This sealing lid becomes worn out too soon:

The plastic retainer clip on this coupler that connects to the air hose keeps breaking:

Moot point - the OP already stated he/she doesn't use the humidifier.avi123 wrote:What ever you decide to buy I would stay away from the Resmed S9™ Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier because it has these components that are likely to fail after a few years of use.

if one doesn't abuse the equipment, it doesn't wear prematurely in the first place... plus there's nothing easier to replace than that top sealJimW159 wrote:Moot point - the OP already stated he/she doesn't use the humidifier.avi123 wrote:What ever you decide to buy I would stay away from the Resmed S9™ Series H5i™ Heated Humidifier because it has these components that are likely to fail after a few years of use.

And it is not an expensive part. I bought one from cpap.com.
