So what is considered the Rolls Royce of CPAP Machines

After the 1st year of using it and being compliant with the requirements, the machine was mine. As others have said, the current top two, I believe are the Resmed S10 autoset and the Philips Resperonics Dream Station. In recommending a full face mask, I recently got an Airfit F10. I really like it. Before I get any new products, I check out all the reviews I can find. I especially like the YouTube reviews by The Lanky Lefty. He's a sleep tech who reviews all the new products.

Perhaps you might help in defining what you mean by "Rolls Royce of CPAP machines." If you are looking for the most luxurious machine, the question of "what is luxury" in CPAP would come up. If, on the other hand, you are looking for the most reliable, then why not use Land Rover as an analogy? The point is: what are the specific quality criteria you are using to guide you? Insurance uses the exact same billing code when it comes to CPAP machines - it matters not the brand, capabilities, or quality perceptions of the user. If you went to Hertz and just rented a car with no differentiation as to type, brand, or model, you would likely ask for the one that best suited your specific needs not some supposedly universal belief as to its status - unless, of course, if that was what you wanted.

Good answer. You can buy machines that do more than just C- or Apap and cost a lot more, but they also do a lot more that's not necessary for plain obstructive apnea and you wouldn't need them unless you had a diagnosis that made it necessary. It was kind of a silly question really.

well, it's a good question, though perhaps not the best way to state it.

looking at cpap.com, you've got:

3B Medical -- chinese junk
AEIOMed -- out of business?
Apex Medical -- down the list somewhere, certainly not the "apex".
CareFusion -- out of business?
Curative Medical -- who are these people?
DeVilbiss -- good, not the best data.
Evo -- out of business?
Fisher & Paykel -- said to be flaky at times.
Human Design Medical -- spendy pocket travel machines, do they work??
Philips Respironics -- #2 by a nose, but budget engineering at times.
PMI Porbasics -- more dead zone?
Puritan Bennet -- and more dead zone.
ResMed -- my choice for #1, for data and general engineering.
Somnetics -- another 'travel' ish machine line.
Sunrise Medical -- dead and buried.
Viasys -- more wasteland.

and then there's other brands in other countries that I've only heard of in test reports.

Your "Rolls Royce" is whichever one meets your needs at a price point you can afford (or your insurer will allow). I guess for that exclusive 'Trump' touch you could have the case and electronics professionally disassembled then take the plastic case to an electroplate facility and have it gold plated. That'd be pretty cool.

Given that insurance pays for almost all CPAP machines, the Rolls Royce analogy doesn't work.

What insurance would pay for a Rolls Royce when a Toyota or Chevrolet would do? Thus, there's no market for a Rolls Royce.


Meanwhile, most of the machines on the market are good.

Your insurer pays one price they set for ANY CPAP machine. They don't care if it's a rolls Royce or a ford pinto. There's a single billing code for all (APAP and CPAP) machines and they pay for ANY machine but not a penny more or less than their set amount. Your fight to get a RR machine is with the DME, not the insurer. Your DME hopes to give you the cheapest brick they can. Read my "What you need to know BEFORE you meet your DME for tips on how to get at least a Cadillac. The machine models in my blog are out of date.

My wife tried a few FFMs before settling on the Fisher & Paykel Simplus. She still experienced a bit of misfit however (air leakage), but that's been taken care of using a fabric mask liner.

I used this forum and CPAP.com to do a lot of research about what machine to get. I concluded the best machine for my tastes was an Airsense 10 for Her (same as Airsense 10 with extra algorithm.)

When I went to see my doctor, he recommend the F&P. So I went home and researched it and concluded the Airsense was much better. I have posted the comparison,

I provided the same info to my doctor and asked him to write a prescription specifically for the Airsense. He did. My insurance assigned me to a local DME that did not carry the Airsense. I asked them to re-assign me to one that did. They did and I got the Airsense. I am happy with this machine so far.

you got the Airsense10 AutoSet for her, which is the same as the Airsense10 AutoSet except with an extra mode. (to avoid any possible confusion with the Airsense10 Elite and the Airsense10 CPAP models)
