Everybody's skin has thin spots.
I think he is just having fun with dumb people.
THEIR skin is thick all over.
Especially above the ears.

Re: Use CPAP for naps?
What he probably meant, regardless of how well he expressed it, was that if you use your cpap for less than 4 hours a night then the insurance company will not continue paying for the machine, and his services. This is, indeed, important information if you don't want to lose the machine. The insurance companies decided, unsurprisingly, that they were not going to continue to pay for cpap machines that people used a few times and then threw in a closet or sold.
If he were more articulate, he would have said something like, "You need to use the machine for at least 4 hours a night, minimum, to keep the insurance company happy. As you get used to it, you will want to use it all night because of how much it will help your sleeping."
What he was NOT saying was, "If you can't last at least 4 hours, don't even bother trying." Please don't take it that way. And there are plenty to people here willing to help with any problems you are having - just ask!
Anytime that you are sleeping, or if there is even a CHANCE that you might fall asleep while laying down and reading or watching tv, you should turn on the machine and mask up.

On my prescription for CPAP my sleep doc wrote specifically "must use for all sleep periods." It sounds like whomever is misinformed at best

Re: Use CPAP for naps?
16 years ago when I started my tech told me to use it even when napping. However, during the day I tend to nap in a chair with a straight back and instead of using a cpap I allow my head to go forward towards my chest. This causes my jaw to fall forward and for the most part it opens my airway so that i can nap with no interruptions. Along the same line of thought before I had a cpap my wife used to stick her finger in my mouth and pull out a little on my lower jaw to keep my airway open. It works.
Re: Use CPAP for naps?
I may not use it for short naps, as according to my oximeter, my O2 doesn't dip for the first couple of hours, until I'm hitting heavier sleep, but this varies for everyone.
If you happen to take a nap without your machine, you may well drop O2 and not get good sleep at all, no way to tell without monitoring it. My worst O2 was always after like 4 hours personally.

Actually if your head tilts towards your chest it will kink and narrow your arrow.lanco wrote:However, during the day I tend to nap in a chair with a straight back and instead of using a cpap I allow my head to go forward towards my chest. Re: Use CPAP for naps?
This makes no sense. It is well known that cramping the neck in this position makes the airway opening smaller and more subject to collapse. Not to mention, it is a bad position for spine health and may cause headaches or worse.lanco wrote:I allow my head to go forward towards my chest. The spine should be kept straight in alignment from tail bone to top of neck. You can even improve airway patency by tipping the head slightly back from a straight line. But, this may not be good for your spine over the long run.

Absolutely use it for naps!

The way I learned it was ears, shoulders, and hips should all be in alignment.Midnight Strangler wrote:The spine should be kept straight in alignment from tail bone to top of neck.
