New user :question

Post by Marymolly » Sat Aug 20, 2016 7:38 pm

Hi, I am a new user. I actually just got my machine 5 days ago. I am using a full mask. The therapist that brought the machine out said that it was new, however, each night after the machine is running about 20 minutes I can feel and smell put fume coming through the machine. I am sensative to fragrance...I know that this is NOT a "new machine" smell. Or the smell of the plastic mask etc. I have been unable to keep the mask on for more than a couple of hours at a time any night so far. I have a sore throat today and am feeling frustrated and very disappointed. Does any one have any advice or has anybody experienced anything like this before? I really don't think it is a matter of getting used to the device...I swear there is a fragrance inside.

What machine (make and model) is it? You should be able to look at the screen that shows RUN HOURS, and it should only show the amount of hours on it that you used it. Similar to a car odometer showing mileage. If you tell us what machine it is, we can tell you how to find the RUN HOURS. It should show something like 5 nights of use X 8 hrs that you used it, so like 40 hours.

My original thought was to wear it all night tonight, no matter what, even if I am up all night just to get thru the roughest part, but now I am worried that the scent thing is going t make it worse. I just don't like the idea of having to wait longer to get the ball rolling with this.

Sorry, done for the night. My husband just went to bed, and if I go in the bedroom and look at my machine to check, and wake him up, he won't be happy. Just keep clicking through the menu and you will come across it. Maby your machine is a little different than mine, mine is the Resmed, but not the for her version.
If you have the manual, try looking in it for how to access RUN HRS.
Or, hopefully someone else will help.

When the unit is first set up, one may select from two levels of information provided on the user-level screen. If I recall correctly, the choice is between "options" and "options plus" - the PLUS allows access to further bits of information. I do not have my machine readily at hand and may be off on the terms. I will check later and post again.

Here's the clinician manual. This isn't the same as the user manual that usually comes with a machine.
https://sleep.tnet.com/home/files/resme ... -guide.pdf

You may need to be in the clinical setup mode to get to the menu where the run hours are shown.
See page 17 under the Configuration block and where it says "About" and then goes on to say Run hours,
SN, SW, Provider, etc

How to get to the clinical menu is on page 14

It's the Essentials for level of patient access that needs to be set to "Plus"....see page 17 under Options.
I think this just pertains to access to more than hours of use on the LCD screen and not run hours but change it just to be sure. It let's you see more than hours of use on the screen...like AHI, leak, etc.

You need to first get to the clinical menu by holding down both the HOME button and the big round button for 3-4 seconds. Once you're in clinical menu, then:
Click on Settings.
Scroll down to Essentials and click on it.
Select ESSENTIALS PLUS and click on that.
Scroll back up to HOME and click on it.
Scroll up to EXIT CLINICAL MENU and click on it.

Now you're back where you began, but the ESSENTIALS PLUS lets you see more information.
Click on MY OPTIONS.
Scroll all the way to the bottom to ABOUT. Click on it.
About three lines down is Run Hours, which will tell you how many hours total your machine has been running. If it's more than 40 or so (you said 5 nights, right?) then you were given a used machine. (Mine says 1596, and I've had it since February.)

Good luck!

HI- thanks for your help! I was able to get to the "plus" section and access the information. It says the run time is 15.5 hours. I know for a fact I did not go over 7hours...tops! Since I have had the machine. Maybe it was used for training or something. The therapist said it was brand new..,ha.
So I think I really should not use it until I can speak to her on Monday. Do you agree?
