Why are you washing the hose anyhow... it doesn't get dirty just having filtered air blown through it in one direction all the time - lots of us never bother for years. Really.
Re: dried hose with machine w/ water in tank? safe???
Filtered humid air. My hose occasionally gets some water condensation. Wouldn't that water be a nice place to grow mold/bacteria?Julie wrote:it doesn't get dirty just having filtered air blown through it in one direction all the time

Only if you stopped using it for some time, but if you use it every night, mold etc. doesn't have a chance to take hold and you'd see anything if it did, at which time you could choose to clean it with a little vinegar mixed into water. Most people here use humidity at some time, but don't have a problem.

Re: dried hose with machine w/ water in tank? safe???
NO! If "something" is going to grow, it has to come from "somewhere". That means it would be coming from your dwelling (bedroom) where you're breathing unfiltered air the other hours when you're not using your machine. Distilled water is not a good environment for things to grow. AND.......whatever may get into the water would have to make it through the air intake filters. If it does make it past the air intake filters, it would then fall into the HH tank water and stay there. Water vapor molecules are too small to carry anything (including viruses and bacteria) out of the HH tank.DBestman wrote:Filtered humid air. My hose occasionally gets some water condensation. It's not logical. And, you're introducing more unfiltered air into the equipment every time you take things apart to clean them.
If you insist on cleaning your equipment, do it in the evening before going to bed. That way, any remaining moisture would be added to the humidified air coming out of the HH tank.

would it? how long does it stay wet in there? besides, it's a dynamic system, the water doesn't just poof into existence and sit there, providing a nice incubator, it moves around, and that spot that a droplet was on dries...DBestman wrote:Filtered humid air. oh, and then, when you take your mask off, your machine, being a resmed, continues running for a while to cool down the humidifier and dry the hose *every day*.
so, your "fears" are overblown

and, much dirtier water while washing and rinsing. (tap vs water vapor, often from distilled water)Wulfman... wrote:It's not logical. Oh, if you're speaking to me, I have no "fear" (I'm not the OP). But I am gathering information to decide if I'll clean it or not. I'm told by Resmed/doctor/therapist to clean it every week, but I'm really looking for excuses NOT to clean it every week (it's a hassle and I'm lazy).palerider wrote:so, your "fears" are overblown
I kind of agree that there's minimal risk in not cleaning, but I do think that it's not as clean/sterile environment as some of you think it is (The filter is not perfect, for example).
Cheers!

If you do decide it's important to wash your hose...Please don't hang it in the germ ridden bathroom to dry

I'm wondering what they think is in our hoses that needs cleaning out?DBestman wrote:I'm told by Resmed/doctor/therapist to clean it every week
And if it needs cleaning every week, why not twice per week? Or every day? Or set an alarm and clean it midway through the night and again the next morning?

And, for the REALLY OCD crowd........every hour. You just never know what may be crawling around in there!ChicagoGranny wrote:I'm wondering what they think is in our hoses that needs cleaning out?DBestman wrote:I'm told by Resmed/doctor/therapist to clean it every week

The more you clean this "stuff", the faster it'll wear out.......which is an income source for the people who manufacture and sell this "stuff". It's in their financial interests for you to wear it out and buy more "stuff".

If the filter is not perfect, it is simply letting in room air that you breath all day long without filters.DBestman wrote:Oh, if you're speaking to me, I have no "fear" (I'm not the OP). you're the one that's talking about mold and bacteria. if you don't fear it, then quit trying to install fear in others who don't know any better.DBestman wrote:Oh, if you're speaking to me, I have no "fear" (I'm not the OP).palerider wrote:so, your "fears" are overblown
