In my search for the right mask, I was able to route the hose up and over my head with almost all of them. Some had headgear with a loop already in place on the top strap. If not, I cut a piece of Velcro a few inches long and created a loop myself that held the hose in place.

NEVER EVER sleep with a baby in your bed. It seems that every week we hear of a baby dying from being smothered in bed with a parent. This is assuming that when you indicated co sleeping you meant with a baby and not with another person or pet.
I don't know what you are reading but that is not the case.

Almost 4 yr. old granddaughter has slept with me once since I got my machine. She had a fascination with it for about a minute and that was that. I route mine up with a hose holder so the hose doesn't lay near me. She understands it's an important machine and not to be played with. I don't think you'll have many problems. Good luck!

Mainemagoo,

My wife and I co-sleep with our son and do not have any issues. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea several years before he was born. So for him it is just another part of Daddy's nightly routine.

To my knowledge, he has never been tangled in the hose and I do not use anything special to manage it. I thought about buying something, but I did not like the idea of adding another "contraption." I just route the hose under the bed (my machine is on the bottom of my night stand) and then pull it up between the mattress and headboard. Sandwiching the hose between my headboard and pillow keeps it it in from pulling downward.

You may want to consider letting your child check out your mask and hose. One morning, when he was about three and a half, I was woke by my son playing with my mask. He was just curious about the thing that was always attached to my face at night. I let him check it out, showed how it worked, and explained why it was important for him to not play with it. After he had finished checking out the mask, I disconnected it from the hose and turned on the machine showing him how it blew air. We then proceeded to have an air gun fight, taking turns with the only weapon (he won). He has not messed with it since.

In hot climates, safety from predators/vermin is a real concern.
Due to SIDS, ignorance, and superstition, parents were often blamed for the unexplained death of an infant.
One may wonder why only "civilized" parents make their babies sleep alone.
Chunky, Co-sleeping just didn't work for us for either kid for a variety of reasons--my husband is a very light sleeper and got no sleep with a snurgling, jiggling bedmate, and when the second child came I had bilateral frozen shoulders. I could not move myself in bed, let alone care for an infant in a horizontal position. Getting the eldest to sleep in our bed or her own was hell for 3 years. We were exhausted and lack of sleep was a problem for all of us, especially her. For my little one, I used the techniques in a book called the Baby Whisperer to teach my youngest self soothing techniques. She learned to sleep through the night in her own bed in 8 weeks and was the happiest, sweetest baby ever because she was well rested (and so were her parents!). After story time I would put her in her bed wide awake, tell her how wonderful she was, kiss her goodnight, blow kisses all the way to the door, turn out the light and leave the room. She never cried once, we didn't have to do "Ferberizing" (barbaric!), nothing. Sometimes judgmental statements can be hurtful. I think co-sleeping is great for people for whom it works well. It didn't work well for us, so we made other choices that did.

I only recently started cpap, but we've been co sleeping for years with our infants until they're weaned. Our latest addition was interested in it, and tried to play with the mask a few times, but after some gentle guidance she knows not to play with it. I lay the hose up the pillow towards the headboard, then down between the headboard and mattress, and wear a resmed P10. The air exhaust is diffuse, and so far doesn't seem to bother the baby, but I still try to keep it aimed away from her, to avoid waking her more than anything else.

The only threats a 3 year old in bed with the parents presents is the ability to maintain a healthy "intimate" relationship with each other. BTDT. Didn't like it.
