Does anyone have experience co sleeping with CPAP?

Post by Mainemagoo » Sat Mar 12, 2016 9:11 am

I'm new and we cosleep. I get the cpap next week. Will the hose pose any entanglement risks etc?

Thanks.

There are various ways to deal with it - Google Hose Buddy to start, then consider attaching it to the headboard (loosely) or even a 'sky' hook using a somewhat longer hose, but more than 10' will impact therapy. The first suggestion is probably the most practical.

The baby won't care. Neither will the cats or dog.

Ummmm... some pets love to chomp and chew Not sure about 'baby', a little light gumming probably won't hurt.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Be sure to keep the machine on one side of you and baby on the other side. Don't have baby sleeping between you and the machine. If baby sleeps between you and the other parent a Snuggle Nest gives an extra measure of safety (with or without CPAP).

NEVER EVER sleep with a baby in your bed. It seems that every week we hear of a baby dying from being smothered in bed with a parent. This is assuming that when you indicated co sleeping you meant with a baby and not with another person or pet.

Let me clarify: I'm taking about a 3 year old.
I just don't know what to expect when I get this cpap. If the hose will be moving all over the place or just hang down the side of the bed. It seems like a hose that won't kink or wrap on a tight coil. Ergo, I'm thinking it should be safe. I would not have my little one between me and the machine.

Thanks!

I understand your concern. However, you and your 3 year old will be fine after a few nights of figuring it out. For more peace of mind, consider a DreamWear mask... it routes on top of your head, so the hose is out of the way. Either google or do a search here to see the mask.

well, that would all depend on whether you're doing gymnastics, and or your three years old is jumping on you.... or you're both sleeping.

Did I miss out on why someone would sleep in a bed with a 3 yr old altogether? A baby of course is a no-no, and a child of e.g. over 7 I imagine would be similar, but why do it at all if you're concerned?

Masks vent out a lot of air through a vent that's usually on the front of the mask. . You might have to experiment with various masks to find one that doesn't blow on your little one. A hose hanger can help with hose management and may help.

The three year old won't care if you don't. Some three year olds use a cpap machine just fine.

Or just pretend you are an elephant.

In cold climates, smaller children often sleep with their parents--just for the warmth.
In hot climates, safety from predators/vermin is a real concern.
Due to SIDS, ignorance, and superstition, parents were often blamed for the unexplained death of an infant.
One may wonder why only "civilized" parents make their babies sleep alone.
