Good question, and lots of intelligent and well-thought out answers. My reasons are just a bit different; I had (have) some emotional issues to deal with re the CPAP. I put off the whole apnea issue and getting it checked out because I dreaded the idea of wearing a mask and being strapped to a machine at night for the rest of my life. It made me feel old and weak. We travel a lot, and I dreaded the idea of lugging the whole thing with me to foreign countries, etc. And then once I got the contraption, I simply hated it, and had lots of problems with it.
Happily I am settling in to the whole concept and experience, and focusing on the benefits. Good luck!

Why Am I Here? After 25 years of CPAPing, I need to buy my fourth CPAP machine. Past CPAP purchases have simply been what my CPAP dealer wanted to sell to me. I'd like to make a more informed purchase this time. But where are the reviews? Are they buried somewhere in these 1822 pages of cpaptalk?

Actually, Goof, only REGISTERED forum members can vote on polls.
So blaming newbies for resurrecting useless click bait polls is inaccurate;
and bashing newbies is just plain MEAN,---Are you that guy?

In reality I don't count guests or drive-by ' s as newbys. I just count new people that register as members. I have nothing against newbes, we all were them once, but most of us didn't start polls for attention, or post 1 threads in a hour, mostly on stupid questions a fifth grader should know. When I came here I could read, and read I did, long before I wrote.

I found out about data, and got help getting the software and reader I needed, thanks to others on the forum. I didn't have a need to figure out my life, by what others thought or did. I got the facts and made my own mistakes and decisions. Jim

Not broken, but surely worn down. 11 years ago when I found this site, people were different, nowdays people don't seem to have the ability to think rationally for themselves. It seems that 2/3 of the posters are seeking drama or chasing it.

I truly don't have a answer for the cause, but I would blame the T.V. and other media, as will as schools of higher learning, lack of a stable home life all play a part, it's been a downhill ride for our country, for sure.

Isn't going to matter, except for our children, they will have to live it, you can't freeze time, it marches on, we don't learn well from our mistakes, so we repeat them, over and over. I am no longer in a position to make changes, resistance is all that's left! Just thankful for the Sun rising every morning, it's nice when the Lilly Pad is dry too! Jim

First off, I love to hear stories of people who instantly click with CPAP and have wonderful results. Even more so, I love stories like yours, apneac... people who have to struggle (sometimes for months) but in the end come up victorious. Now, those stories I really love, plus they inspire so many others

Good point PR. Your suggestion is a more refine-able search technique. This is also a better search method because CPAPtalk's search engine is frankly kind of weak. This method works with most well-known search engines like google, duckduckgo and Yahoo search. Just put in your search term (like this example below) in your browser's search window:

I think you're right CF... I wasn't aware that that will pop the Poll to the top. <sigh>. That needs to be fixed or at least investigated. Hope they catch the poll troll.

I don't believe my specialist or technicians lack expertise. I do find that (in my case, and I presume most cases) they don't have direct experience with wearing masks. The non-medical aspects, adjustments, chin straps, choices between masks and the myriads of little tricks covered in this forum, are a gold mine for patients. Also the insight that you can greatly contribute to your own treatment. I do believe that an excellent specialist or technician should become familiar with these aspects, or have someone at hand who is. Too many stop using the treatment due to "minor" problems (from a medical point of view), but "major" from a patient's point of view. It is quite an intrusive type of therapy in one way. I stuck with it as I experienced the benefits and was determined to get better. It's still a quite crude (if inventive) solution to a problem. We're not designed to wear "diving masks" for half of our life, which makes it sound far worse than it is. But it's not surprising we're experiencing so many problems still.
