Wow, the continuation of the posts on this thread have really helped me to see that Granny is off her rocker. Or as Pale Rider said, sometimes it's Grandpa. Granny, do everyone here a favor and leave this thread. You seem more interested in spewing hate and misinformation than being supportive and helpful. (Btw, mongoloid is a very antiquated term, which tells me that if you pulled your own head out of your ass, you'd realize that this is not 1920). Good day, m'aam. Or sir. I'm not sure which.Sheffey wrote:Granny, I know you are very good at it, but it seems like a waste of your time to try to educate the left-leaning forum denizens. Even simply written articles like http://www.sfchronicle.com/business/art ... 317050.php give you a summary discussion of how this patented drug will reduce the total cost to treat hepatitis C. This, despite the fact that SF quotes the list price and fails to mention that the cost for a full treatment of the drug is running $43,500 in the U.S. in 2015 - so the savings are even bigger than they imagined..PailRider wrote:so that a common course of treatment costs $84,000
Do you really want to side with "Big Indian Pharma" who avoids paying the cost of research, the cost of clinical trials and the cost of FDA approval and steals the work and investment of another firm? You have a strange sense of morality. You are also impractical - this drug would never have come about if the world was depending on those cheating Indian suppliers.
We just have to continue to vote to make sure they don't kill the goose that keeps on laying golden eggs.

You are wrong again. All of the marketing and government statistics from India list three races - Caucasoid/Negroid/Mongoloid.corvallisgrace75 wrote:(Btw, mongoloid is a very antiquated term, which tells me that if you pulled your own head out of your ass, you'd realize that this is not 1920).
Some sources list six, but demographic statistics from these sources are expensive and generally not reliable:
Negrito
Proto - Australoids or Austrics
Mongoloids
Mediterranean or Dravidian
Western Brachycephals
Nordic Aryans

It specifies 'ethnic groups', not races... you need to go back to school (if they'll have you).

Re: do you have faith in Homeopathy?
I suggested that Granny leave, but she doesn't listen. Stubborn old broad. I have contributed much to this thread (which is all wrong according to Granny/Grandpa) and would be interested in continuing to do so. I think Pale Rider needs to start another thread about pharmaceutical companies, as this is the turn that these last few posts have taken. And there is no call for the nastiness and name calling from Granny. Her (his) attitude of superiority and condescension invalidates any good points she may have and detracts from the focus of the thread.

Seriously! I showed some of Granny's posts to my friends. Many of them are nurses. Scientific-medical people. The only type that Granny trusts. They were rolling at the picture she posted of herself sticking her own head up her arse. They said, "So Granny knows she's a f*ck nut then?" Yes, I said. Apparently she does know that she defines the very essence of an internet troll. They told me to thank you for the laughs, Granny. Keep smiling and doing what you do best-- which is absolutely nothing, as far as I'm concerned.palerider wrote:you're really on a roll today, who pissed in your wheaties?ChicagoGranny wrote:[more assholishness]corvallisgrace75 wrote: I have contributed much to this thread

PR-- thanks for the advice about the "friend" vs. "foe" setting. Granny became my very first foe. Who'd have thunk it? Certainly not me! Sometimes I'd decompress her posts so I can have a good laugh though. Good laughs are free you know. Unless Granny charges.....wow, that would make her....a hack? Noooooo.

Thanks, PR. I definitely respect fairness. And who hasn't had their Wheaties pissed in or gotten their knickers in a bunch from time to time?

corvallisgrace75... first of all, thank you for your contributions to the forum even tho you've only been here a short time.
I've been waiting a long time for Granny (haven't had a prob with Gramps as far as I know) to show her true self. I wouldn't think of putting Granny on my foe list tho... her nasty comments have given me more than a few laughs. Look back at some of her posts, that will tell you a lot. She now has managed to get Julie and PR on her case which is very funny in itself.
When people of a certain age are as angry and hostile as she is, some would say that dementia has set in. In reading this thread, I'm sure of it. Oh... I'm fairly certain she and I are close in age.
Stay tuned... she hasn't attacked me in a while but tomorrow is another day.

Re: do you have faith in Homeopathy?
I think you and many others who promote quackery are making a big logical fallacy.corvallisgrace75 wrote:With all due respect, you're making a big mistake by refusing to acknowledge the variety of human experiences. People don't come in a one size fits all box. I come from a family with scientists. My father, who passed away three years ago, was a nuclear chemist on a team of scientists that has discovered the latest four super-heavy elements on the periodic table. 113, 114, 115 and 116.
...
It's as simple as that-- if people were satisfied with the care they're receiving, THESE HACKS AND QUACKS WOULD NOT BE IN EXISTENCE. Can you blame someone who has medical needs, is in pain, and is treated poorly by their doctor for deciding to see a hack because at least that hack treats them like a human being?
Stipulate for the moment that the mainstream science based medical practitioners have failed a particular patient. This may be bad practitioners, honest but incorrect science, or just a case of science hasn't figured out that particular problem.
95% of the alternative medicine is either ineffective or outright harmful. Even the "merely ineffective" treatments are often harmful because they make people stop seeking or taking treatment that is doing some good. In particular, it can make them stop treatment that isn't curing them, but is reducing their effectiveness.
It's like finding out some of the oil change places aren't really using the premium synthetic oil you paid for and isn't doing the maintenance they say you are. Homeopathy is like deciding to skip the oil changes and put a miracle "crystalline magneto-molecular" magnet on your oil pan that you saw on late night TV and never changing your oil again.

Re: do you have faith in Homeopathy?
Actually, I think much of Big Pharma needs to be drug with a chain behind a pickup truck. We also need to make major changes in how the industry is run. The "good old days" of big pharma actually working for the public good are gone. Some is big pharma's fault, much is the government's fault.ChicagoGranny wrote:Every post that uses "Big Pharma" as a pejorative, I try to totally ignore.
As for just one example, I am old enough to have many friends who are living and thriving today only because "Big Pharma" spent huge amounts of money to research and develop novel chemotherapy treatments for cancer.
They've stopped doing most research into antibiotics and the old antibiotics are failing, in part due to big pharma marketing the antibiotics to farmers to make faster weight gain. They're putting most of their research into minor tweaks into existing drugs such as Nexium, which is a minor change to Prilosec, but gets new patent protection. They're patenting things like putting two drugs into one pill, when you could easily just take two pills. Then there are overpriced "new" drugs that are very little better than the old drug, but cost a lot more due to patents. Then they quit manufacturing the cheap drug.
However, the evil of big pharma doesn't mean alternative medicine works. It means we're not getting all we can out of the real medicine, and we're getting shafted by big pharma.

That statement is way too general. What type of alternative treatment are you talking about and for what conditions?95% of the alternative medicine is either ineffective or outright harmful. Even the "merely ineffective" treatments are often harmful because they make people stop seeking or taking treatment that is doing some good. In particular, it can make them stop treatment that isn't curing them, but is reducing their effectiveness.
