Has anyone heard of added a very weak concentration of food grade hydrogen peroxide to the distilled water in your unit?

What for? Do you think the water (or sealed hum. unit) is intrinsically dirty?

No -- why?

I don't think there is any such thing as food grade hydrogen peroxide any more than there is food grade chlorine bleach....

It could also damage the plastic. The manufacturers are explicit. Use only distilled water and clean with only mild soaps with no antibacterial agents, citrus, or moisturizers.

distilled water is clean i would think hydrogen peroxide would do damage to the humidifier chamber because it is plastic please follow the manufacturers guidelines for cleaning and maintaining your equipment

I've heard of people drinking food-grade peroxide with distilled water, I've also heard of people vaporizing it with distilled water as a sort of therapeutic inhalant, but I can't say I've heard of putting it into a CPAP humidifier. If you're thinking about combining some sort of peroxide therapy along with your CPAP therapy, I think I'd keep them separate.

A low concentration of peroxide probably won't kill any germs. I'd be afraid to breathe the fumes, especially if you put in enough to kill germs or have any biological effects.

Concentrated H2O2 is a nasty chemical. Even on cuts, it has a burning effect along with killing germs.

I think the idea of drinking or inhaling it is new age bullstuff.

The MSDS for 3% Hydrogen Peroxide list this.

Potential Acute Health Effects:
Very hazardous in case of skin contact (irritant), of eye contact (irritant). Hazardous in case of skin contact (corrosive), of eye contact (corrosive), of ingestion, . Slightly hazardous in case of inhalation (lung sensitizer). Liquid or spray mist may produce tissue damage particularly on mucous membranes of eyes, mouth and respiratory tract. Skin contact may produce burns. Inhalation of the spray mist may produce severe irritation of respiratory tract, characterized by coughing, choking, or shortness of breath. Prolonged exposure may result in skin burns and ulcerations. Over-exposure by inhalation may cause respiratory irritation. Inflammation of the eye is characterized by redness, watering, and itching. Skin inflammation is characterized by itching, scaling, reddening, or, occasionally, blistering.

Potential Chronic Health Effects:
CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available. MUTAGENIC EFFECTS: Not available. TERATOGENIC EFFECTS: Not available. DEVELOPMENTAL TOXICITY: Not available. The substance is toxic to lungs, mucous membranes.
Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage.

Probably not a good choice to inhale even at low concentrations.

After a few nights of that, would you have any apnea? Or breathing at all? The only time I would use H2O2 is for wound cleaning, and then only in a very low concentration!

I have been in pools that used H2O2 instead of chlorine. They were very nice to spend time in and I didn't notice my hair (the ones that spent most of the time in the water) getting paler. The water was sort of fizzy but it did take a lot of oils out of your skin.
