First night with my CPAP!
First night with my CPAP!
Well, I finally got my equipment yesterday and had my first night with my CPAP! I suppose this is just a celebratory post Although I had hoped for a night with NO awakenings, that did not happen, but I had a MUCH improved night and woke today feeling a bit more rested. (Well, to be honest, I slept long, woke, and went back to bed for awhile since it was Saturday, my husband was warm and cozy next to me, and I think I have a huge sleep debt!) MY sleep study AHI was 22.3. and last night's was 3.47! Quite an improvement. Just for practice and good measure I will try posting my first SleepyHead data here:

Re: First night with my CPAP!
That looks a heckuva lot better than my first night on CPAP. It look me about six weeks to see a report like that.

Great first night. Did you have any leak issues? Feeling good is what matters most in the beginning.

Thanks, Folks! I'm a happy camper. Thanks for sharing in my celebratory mood!
Blessings,
Kate
I think my leaks were OK... I tool the mask off on purpose twice and that was registered as "leaks" of course. I think I'll turn off the machine from now on! But here is my SleepyHead Leak info- W-Avg: 1.66 MIn -0.00 Med -1.20 95% -8.40 Max -24.00 I did have to mess with the headgear a bit at first to get it right and will probably need to play with it a bit more, as I know I can do better. But I'm happy with this for night one!caffeinatedcfo wrote:Great first night. Did you have any leak issues? Feeling good is what matters most in the beginning.

Kate...great news.
But do us a favor...go into the SH preferences and click on the appearance tab. Then unclick the pie chart. We need to see the numbers.

Re: First night with my CPAP!
While you are in Preferences...go to graphs tab and remove the check mark for the AHI graph..you don't need it..you have the events graph on top and the AHI breakdown on the left.
You don't really need mask pressure either.
If you do that and a little resizing of the graphs you can get leak line to show up and it is much more important than the AHI graph or mask pressure graph.
BTW....congratulations on getting past the first night hurdle. You did quite well.

Great first night! Looks like you may be one of our "ducks"! I'm not the expert here but you might wind up increasing your pressure a bit to take care of some events and snores. Keep us posted.

Re: First night with my CPAP!
Thanks, Dori! Well, I have been called a quack before. But it does seem to be going swimmingly! (Oh, will someone please stop me!) As for the higher pressure -- I thought the same thing! However, since I met my deductible my insurance is going to buy my machine for me. I have to go through 2 months of compliance stuff while they rent it. I think this includes not only hours of use but proving I'll be a good girl as well. Then they will purchase it for me. There is a modem on the back of my machine that sends data to my DME and my doc will check the card in two months. My Doc, DME RT, and Insurance company all consider self-directed changes (dial winging?) to be non-compliance So I'll give it a little more time and when I check in with my RT next time I will ask her if we can try a little higher pressure if the snores and events continue. The good thing though, is that my husband was shocked about the snores because he said this was the first time he has never heard me snore through the night! I guess the machine is more sensitive than my husbandDoriC wrote:Great first night! Looks like you may be one of our "ducks"! Re: First night with my CPAP!
Is EPR off limits as far as changes?
You can give yourself a little increase in pressure by reducing EPR to 1.
Most of the time EPR is considered a comfort feature and within the patient's realm of things it is okay to alter.
But it isn't critical...we don't want to mess up walking the straight and narrow till insurance and DME are out of the pressure.
There's no critical need to do anything right now at this very minute.
Besides...often things settle down a bit on their own with time and experience.
