I need friends at this time, lots of problems

Post by sister » Sat Mar 19, 2011 8:42 am

Hi everyone,
I don't mean to whine or look for self pity but I guess that I just need friends at this time for support.
as most of you know if you've read any of my posts, I have severe allergies,a lot of them are medications. The terrible thing about medications are,the only way that you can find out if you are allergic to a particular drug is to take it. I don't like to take any new drugs but on february 16th I was told by my doctor that my thyroid was low and he gave me thyroid medicine to take.
the very next morning I took one and my face and neck began to swell, fever and chills, and a SEVERE
headache.
This has gone on for a month now with them giving me prednisone several times and have been unable to stop it.They have been unable to give me anything for the severe head pain because of my allergies,(I have lots of pain medication allergies that have been tried through the years).

I finally wound up in the hosp. last weekend, had a lumbar puncture done,(they thought it was spinal meningitis. But now they think it is Temporal arteritis,(or severe swelling and inflammation in the caroid arteries going up to the brain.
Caused by a hypersensitivity to a drug substance that leads to inflammation and damage to blood vessels!!!!!!!!

Now,I saw a vascular surgeon yesterday morning and he wants to go into surgery and take out a piece of the artery for study under a microscope.
He said that would tell for sure if it is Temporal Arteritis,
but we could choose to wait, stay on really high doses of prednisone for a few weeks, then taper back down off it and see what happens.

Well, I chose to wait and stay on the prednisone, don't really like the idea of someone cutting into my head. The terrible thing is though, predinsone in itself is so damaging to your body in so many ways.
When I searched it on the internet,it's Quite frightening too!
Anyway, enough on the soapbox, I have been very sick and I think I have a long way to go so may I ask for everyone's prayers at this time?
i have no doubt that GOD can heal me and he will!!!!
I really am telling you guys this to ask for your prayers!
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Okay, Prayer number one is on its way and I am sure others to follow.

So sorry you are having to go through this. Nothing I can say except wishing you speedy healing and all that stuff. Feel free to vent anytime. We have big shoulders to lean on and good ears to listen with.

i can sympathize, I am still getting over the effects of the iodine they injected me with in January. My sister has many allergies like you to pain medication.

Have they tried you on a different version of the thyroid meds? There is a dessicated all natural version. Sometimes people are allergic to the preservative in the drugs rather then the drug them selves. But I am sure you know this.

Anyway, keep believing, it is a powerful drug, belief. And prayer can be very helpful in pain relief. PM me if you want more details on this.

Hang in there and hopefully you will start to feel better. It just beats you down when so many things come at you at once. God loves you and we will keep you in out prayers and hope for a full recovery and no surgery.

Dear sister~

What a time you are having!

Prayers on the way, and you are being added to others' prayers lists as well. (same groups have been praying for my mom as she contends with gastric cancer and surrounding treatments and surgery......and she is fairing quite well....THANK GOD!)

All the best, and know you are not totally alone with this....even when it feels as if you are.

Warm regards,
J

Prayer, prayers, and more prayers.............reliance on God will get your everywhere, reliance on man usually screws you up. That being said, God wills us common sense to find the right answers among men too............. Keep working with a doc you trust, a short course of prednisone will not kill you.......right now, it's exactly what you need.

Sister, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. My mom had temporal arteritis. She had a lot of headaches and skeletal pain.

My understanding is that they do a biopsy on a very small segment of the artery and it is an outpatient procedure, not major surgery. Ask for more details to make sure you understand what you are saying yes or no to.
