Muffy To Present CpapTalk "Views Per Hour Award" To Mars

Post by mars » Tue Jun 08, 2010 10:59 pm

Hi All,

Spoiler - There is probably no point in reading further.

But if you want to, here goes................

The cap on my right front tooth came off recently, and I could only find half of it.

The local dentist in private practice quoted $1,500 to $2000 to fix it.

Which I cannot afford.

I went to my usual community health dentist, and she did a beautiful job of building up the remains of my tooth, and also building up the half a cap I still had. And yes, she then joined the two, and it looks and works great.

The cost - $23-00.

I am so grateful we have a public health system, whilst not perfect, is probably as good as any in the world. See "cross-Country Comparisons" at -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_system

which I found fascinating, and, in parts, somewhat inexplicable.

This has been another item of fairly pointless information from

Mars

But I was too excited about the result to not share it with you.

cheers

Hi Bob

When I was working, and paying taxes, no doubt part of that money went to the public health system. And I did not, and do not, begrudge that. Now someone else's taxes are paying for my treatment. That is the way it works, and it is a good system.

You obviously did not check out the link, or perhaps just ignored what you did not like.

You are welcome to your capitalist system, and all the selfishness that goes with it, and the worst healthcare system in the developed world. I prefer a mixed system, which has room for caring for others.

And have you read the news recently - even capitalists need a helping hand sometimes.

cheers

was the waiting period long?

Last time my rear tooth cracked after having a root canal done a few years back, I had to get mine crowned... even after private HBF, I still paid out about $3-400 dollars give or take I think the root canal costed me in total near $500+ a few years back

Absolutely.

Mars, You say the cost was $23 and that is just not correct. The price you paid may have been $23, but you know very well the cost was much higher.

You are making accusations about "selfishness". But isn't boasting about paying $23 instead of $1500 evidence of "selfishness"?

Why not redistribute your wealth and pay the $1500 instead of "selfishly" hoarding the $1477 you saved?

There is no free lunch.

So Well

(I just love your forum name)

Once again you are misrepresenting me.

Last time we had an altercation I proved you to be a liar and dishonestly misrepresenting my posts.

And you are still doing it.

Your post makes no sense, and does not address what I wrote, and does not acknowledge my reply to Bob. You make false assumptions, and then harangue me based on those false assumptions.

Just like you did last time.

You are a liar and a hypocrite, and I thank you for proving it again.

Last time you had to ignore my post pointing out your lies and misrepresentations,

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=52575&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30

this time I do not even have to point them out. All anyone has to do is read my post, then your post.

You are entitled to be as dishonest and as nasty as you want. But from now on, "So Well" will not mean what you would like it to mean.

I guess whilst you are trying to denigrate me (for what reason I have no idea) you are not doing it to someone else. But being on this Forum to denigrate people, and lie and misrepresent them, is something that is your problem, not mine.

I just appreciate you making your lies and maliciousness so obvious.

Hi okitoki

The cap came off on Friday lunchtime. I spent Friday afternoon on the phone. Got an appointment of Monday morning, which I could not get to. Then got one on Tuesday afternoon, and got fixed up.

The Community Dental Clinic factor into their daily schedule the fact that emergency appointments are often needed, so the waiting is virtually negligible.

cheers

It's very unlikely that the amount you paid into the system will be greater than the amount you will take out over the course of your life, unless you are wealthy. Your health care was always paid for by someone more successful than you.
mars wrote:You are welcome to your capitalist system, and all the selfishness that goes with it, and the worst healthcare system in the developed world.
Are you referring to the "worst" health care system that has created the overwhelming majority of major medical advances of the last fifty years? Or the "worst" health care system that attracts international students from across the world, especially our neighbors to the north who have a socialist health care system and a comparable quality of living and come to the US to pay outrageous amounts of money, usually through private loans, for no compelling reason other than to be educated by the highest quality medical system in the world?

No doubt you'll mention our life expectancy. Guess what, the US is filled with obese alcoholics who like to smoke cigarettes and drive their cars too fast without wearing seat-belts. That's just the way we roll. Modern medicine can only do so much. Life expectancy is a product of multiple forces, but the cultural forces far outstrip the forces of modern medicine, unfortunately. If you look at the five year survival rate after being diagnosed with cancer, which is accepted by medical professionals as one of the best ways of guaguing quality of care, the US is right at or near the top. Certainly beats out the UK and their national health system. In other words, if you are going to have cancer, you're better off getting cancer in New York than London.
mars wrote:I prefer a mixed system, which has room for caring for others.
Don't be fooled by Michael Moore's propaganda, the US system certainly does "care for others". The poorest receive free medical care through medicaid, the elderly through medicare, the working class through private insurance, and the only people left out on the sidelines are generally young, healthy people with disposable income who make a conscious choice not to purchase health insurance if its not provided by their employers. And even these leaches can and do receive "free" care. It is illegal and unethical to turn away a sick person from an emergency department and it doesn't happen. On the rare occasion that it does, the rejected patient can retire in short order and with a large sum of money. That said, some health care reform in the US is necessary, including things like prohibiting a company from dropping you from insurance if you lose your job, especially if you lose your job due to illness.

Overall, the US health care system covers the overwhelming majority of people who deserve it, namely anyone who can't afford it themselves is covered, anyone who can afford it themselves by definition can be covered. And in exchange for some disparities in care due to our capitalist health care system, we produce the most advanced technology in the world. We are the avant garde of the world's medical technologies. The vast majority of important medical papers are written and published in the US, technological devices are developed and patented here.

Guess who else benefits from our system? The entire rest of the world. Technologies designed and developed in the US for profit trickle down to Australia and other stagnant systems, and in effect we subsidize your medical research. Your country benefits greatly from the ripple of advances emanating from the US.

Better take a trip out here and hug an American capitalist, too.

Such nonsense ...

I think the stupidity rate of the American population is a far worse problem than the US health care system, cancer rate, obesity epidemic, drug and tobacco habits, or gas guzzling un-used seat belts combined.

Well Bob, If your system is so good then it obviously does not need fixing, and all these posts I am reading about Doctors and DME's etc, and all political parties saying your system does need fixing, must all be lies by deluded patients and politicians.

And this diatribe is over a $23 dental appointment with a few comments thrown in because of your smart-ass remark.

If you do not like being challenged, then do not make derogatory smart-ass statements in what was a friendly thread - until you came along.

You are obviously a nasty piece of work, using the usual distortion and lies that enable you to avoid honestly debating what others have said. I am not going to waste more time on you, your views say all anyone needs to know about you

Bob3000,

Excellent summary!

Very glad to see there are young people who understand how this country was built into the most productive nation in history. Make sure you go to the polls. It is true that a lot of our voting has to be for the lesser of evils, but still important to do it.

One caution, don't get caught up in trying to educate the few cynical socialists who have nothing better to do than post crap and personal attacks here.

I have one or two more things to do with my CPAP therapy and after that will be here only occasionally to catch up on the latest equipment news.

F*** off.
What does the incidence of cancer have to do with anything? I said, once diagnosed with cancer, survival is better in the US than the UK. Incidence has to do with genetic, life style, and environmental exposure which is all outside the realm of health care professionals.
mars wrote:Well Bob, If your system is so good then it obviously does not need fixing
Any system can be improved, and you've implied the US would be better with a socialist health care system. My rejecting your solution to our problems does not mean I deny there are problems. Such a fail attempt at producing a well-known logical fallacy, the False Dilemma.
mars wrote:And this diatribe is over a $23 dental appointment with a few comments thrown in because of your smart-ass remark.
You made a thread to bait this topic. Nothing I said in the previous posts were intended as smart-ass comments and in fact your name-calling is just a diversion to prevent you from having to admit that unless you're wealthy, you never paid as much into the your country's health care system as you took out, and are thus a leach.
mars wrote:If you do not like being challenged, then do not make derogatory smart-ass statements in what was a friendly thread - until you came along.
You're being dishonest. You made this thread to incite this debate and you made and others initiated the personal attacks, the dismissiveness, and thus the disrespectful tone of the conversation. See:
