he wants to quit cpap and didn't like being told to make funeral arrangements

And while they were at it, they should have wrote that the OSA Fairy might be around to cure you as well. Or better yet, try a faith healer, I'm sure that one will work.

Yes, those are all good tips...a bit simplistic, but good.

Unfortunately, none of them are a substitute for CPAP. Currently, some form of PAP is the most effective treatment available. There's no getting around that. Thinking that nasal spray and side-sleeping will solve your OSA problems is dreaming...and dangerous. But it's your life (or lack thereof).

These are good tips IN ADDITION to using cpap. Nothing wrong with good eating habits and good sleep hygiene but not using cpap for sleep apnea is all wrong.

I agree - this is an attempt to garner encouragement to stop CPAP. I wish he would stop shouting in the title of all his posts. I get the impression that in about the next month he's going to 'discover' some miracle cure and 'share with us' how 'great' it is. Watch for it. I told you first. There's no real engagement here. This persona seems staged. If I'm wrong, I apologize... But I don't think I'm wrong.

If I remember right his first posts were should he get his machine and mask online or go to a local DME - then there was a problem with the script not being met exactly etc ------ he is looking for excuses to not do this --- he doesn't want to spend time energy money to find a mask that WILL work

we get them here every so often - they disappear - we don't get sent a copy of the obituary

I agree with the others that those are fantastic tips to supplement CPAP therapy, but I sure wouldn't rely on those measures alone to prevent apneas from occurring, robbing my body and brain of oxygen night after night. Sleep apnea has already stolen enough from me. I am not going to allow it to do any more damage. My health and my life are too important!

Alternative medicine

Most alternative medicines for sleep apnea have not been well studied. Acupuncture has shown some benefit, but also needs more study. Although it may be used in conjunction with standard treatments, acupuncture should not replace them. Talk to your doctor about any alternative treatment approaches you're considering.
Standard treatment is XPAP - and yeah there are med school profs who don't rx it for their patients - been there

Hey, from one newbie who wanted to quit to another.. suck it up, get it done..
YOu dont need to rustle up reasons why it wont work, I already did that, and THAT doesnt work either..
You dont need to mount a defense, you dont need to list all the reasons you cant or dont want to do it..
I tried that too..
Im very stubborn, you must be to. I dont like being controlled, you must not enjoy it either. I dont like doctors tell me "how it is"
I didnt want to "marry" this machine either..
That being said, Im sure you have been thru much tougher things in your life.. and you survived them.
Oh, and what someone said to me.. "was I prepared to have my family change my diapers after I had a stroke"
uh, short answer.. No, I NEED TO MAKE THIS WORK..
Use your energy contructively not descructively. If you are tired, frustrated, and sick of it all.. join my club.. ready to throw in the towel?
Its not worth it, I know that now.. Its not worth the alternatives..

Having read the information posted on the Mayo Clinic Website, I am a little disturbed by it. And as so many others have stated, "These are good tips to use in addition to therapy".

I think that many people would use this information as an excuse to avoid a sleep study and subsequent diagnosis of their problem. Additionally, anyone in the denial stage might just ignore a doctor's advice and

quit therapy. (The seven stages of CPAP therapy are described here in the wiki wiki/index.php/Seven_Stages_of_CPAP). I seem to be in Immersion and ownership right now

I think maybe we should write to the Mayo clinic and see if they might modify the information with some disclaimers that self diagnosis and treatment for the condition may be detrimental to one's health?

Maybe if enough of us wrote (no rants however ) they might reconsider what they have posted.

Just my opinion.
