You can't die from Sleep Apnea

Post by Guest » Mon Jul 09, 2007 11:44 pm

Or at least says Nancy Grace. On her program to night concerning the death of another wrestler Nancy Grace stated, "Sleep Apnea is snoring. You can't die from sleep apnea."

Well.... yes... Nancy you can!!!!!!!! ..... if it is undiagnosed... and/or untreated.

This is just another fine example of a news reporter running her mouth off and NOT knowing anything about what she is talking about.

I call her Nancy Craze.
Isn’t she just a piece of tele-commodity which they usually put between two “talk to your doctor” pieces?

LOL.... if she isn't she should be...

.... but considering this statement.... the last place she needs to be is between two "talk to your doctor" segments.... LOL

Btw, on the program they were looking for a link between the wrestlers deaths....

They kept on the steroids issues and just bacisly swept the sleep apnea issue under the rug after Nancy Grace's comment.

I would suggest there is a link with the steroids and/or sleep apnea.

I think the sleep apnea is much MORE of an issue then Nancy seems to.

death

Post by tomjax » Tue Jul 10, 2007 3:37 am

I doubt if any death certificate ever gave apnea as a primary cause of death and we are dealing with semantics.

I do not think it is possible for a persons aiirway to collapse and then die because it would not open. Something else must happen.

This is kinda like saying a person never died from falling off a skyscraper, it is the sudden stop.
The sequalea of apnea- htn, diabetes, stroke, chf, will be the eventual proximate cause of death although it was brought on by apnea.
Again here we have the chicken egg situation. Most of these conditions can be the cause or result of the others.

So Nancy may be technically correct, but she was imprecise.

They don't die because the airway closes up and stays shut, but because of extremely high blood pressure brought on by apnea over many nights. The BP doesn't just drop because you do or do not use Cpap at some time - there's a lot more to it, but NOT using Cpap properly and consistently does allow it to rise and stay high.

Tom,

You are a treat

Commonsense at its best & most honest

Loved the bit about the sudden stop at the bottom of the skyscraper. Reminds me of the once used expression, "he/she died of old age" - whereas modern medicine says he/she died of a coronary occlusion complicated by hardening of the arteries or he/she died due to failure of the lungs complicated by years of ingesting tar laden smoke which must (without an iota of doubt) be the fault of some evil company and the family & lawyers need to find a doctor to lay the blame on so they can sue and add to the burden of medical insurance the rest of us then have to pick up.

Hmmm, time to get back to nightime tv - Law & Order

She said it on her CNN show, not on CourtTV. From the trnascript
GRACE: They said that Johnny Grunge -- Mike Durham -- he wrestled under the name Johnny Grunge, very, very well-known -- died of sleep apnea. Please. Stop. That`s basically snoring, and you know, not breathing for a few seconds periodically through the night. You don`t die of sleep apnea. That is complete BS.

It would probably be more meaningful to leave comments at CNN. Go to http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5c.html?24

SA IS A KILLER

Post by KAZ » Tue Jul 10, 2007 6:05 am

First of all that story is a prime example of why I never go to cnn at all. I finally collapsed while traveling with my wife in early March. She found a Doc In Box where I fell on the floor in their lobby. My O2 level was replaced by carbon dioxide. They got me on O2 and I was transferred to a hospital. It was a close thing. Twenty one days of intensive care followed by four weeks of next level and eight weeks of rehab. Over $400K spent to get me back. Turns out I have severe SA. Regards

This has really set me off this morning. Grrrr... I sent my comment to CNN (thanks for the link, Daffney_Gillfin!)

What say we teach them a thing or two about OSA? We may be tired, but we won't be trivialized! Let's flood their inbox with complaints about this moron.

News reporter? ... I thought all news reporters had already retired. These days there are only current event spinners and talking psychic heads masquerading as news reporters. As for Grace ... I wouldn't even place her in the later categories ... she is an evil bigoted hate monger that shows her face on my TV no longer than the speed of my finger on the remote button.

BTW - Anyone seen that new TLC show "Inside Brookhaven"? It is a reality show about the "severely" obese. Anyway, in last night's epispode, one of the patients died ... of sleep apnea.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
