Leaking Swift

Post by catchinzzz » Tue Feb 13, 2007 8:20 am

Up until the last few nights I had no problem with my Swift. That's why I am at a loss to figure out what I am doing wrong. Each time I put it on I find it leaking; the leaks aren't always in the same place. Sometimes I can feel it on top blowing into my eye; at other times I feel it blowing on my upper lip. As I said, I've not had this problem before but since I am a novice at this I assume I am missing something.

Reassembly

Post by GoofyUT » Tue Feb 13, 2007 8:36 am

If you've recently disassembled your Swift for cleaning, check to make sure that it has been reassembled properly. Check especially that the vent holes on the barrel are facing OUTWARD and are on the upper front of the barrel, in front of the pillows rather than behind them. Also, check to make sure that the silicon grommets on the blue plastic side rings of the mask are seated properly. There are wide notches in the grommets that correspond with tabs on the blue plastic rings and these notches should be seated in the tabs and the grommets should be uniformorly seated around the blue plastic rings. If that has been disrupted, which can happen easily, it will produce a subtle leak that is difficult to track down. Happened to me just the other night.

Hope this helps.

I neglected to mention that I did take it apart to put fleece pads on the straps. I obviously didn't put it back together properly. I will follow your instructions...I am looking forward to getting a good nights sleep!

Swift leaks

Post by bunker » Wed Feb 14, 2007 12:14 am

Cindy,
I have used the Swift as my main mask for over a year now and one of the best things I found was to use a small ammount of Teflon plumbers tape around each of the end plugs and also the bottom end of the hose where it plugs into the barrel. This keeps the whole unit nice and tight and stops those irritating small leaks that keep you awake in the middle of the night. These become more noticable the more times that the msak is pulled apart to be cleaned. Also, as far as cleaning goes, I only remove the slider and the pillows each day to wash and once a week do the whole barrel, hose etc this helps keep everything snug.
