As seen above and in other threads you are part of the problem. Many trolls (like yourself) are registered trolls and only post to cause problems.

The hostility is from a big Facebook user, and I'm creeped out by how posting that ResMed badge would be a violation of the unwritten and unspoken social rules of Facebook. I wouldn't post pictures of my medical tests on FB, and don't expect my friends to, either.

That's your choice.

Maybe you are too young, but my age group is regularly posting on FB about their medical tests, their surgeries, their doctors, their kidney stones, their prostatectomy, mastectomy, chemo, bulging disc and so on. I have considered posting my AHI after a particularly good or bad night, but haven't done it so far.

In the younger group, they seem to be a little more reticent to post their medical problems. But they do post those baby sonograms.

Take it or leave it. You can choose.

When it comes to FaceBook and the internet, it seems that some people have gone full circle from reckless disregard of their own privacy in the beginning to now total paranoia.

If you are serious about the risk of your information being collected; then don't speak above a whisper even when you think you are alone; don't use the phone; don't write letters; don't turn on your TV; don't use credit cards; never shop at the same store twice; and choose a home isolated far out in the country to avoid being observed by nosy neighbors. Come to think of it, better not leave the house at all.

If one wants to be serious about avoiding all risks of anyone having knowledge of his/her life, then at least be consistent about it. Merely excluding one channel of communication like FaceBook while continuing to use others, like writing about one's health and life on cpaptalk, is meaningless. And now someone somewhere is no doubt grateful to have learned what pisses the OP off!

Regards, Nate

I was raised outside a small town a loooong time ago where it was said, accurately, that everyone knew everyone else's business. So what has changed? Knowing everyone else's business has gone global.

In a small town you knew your enemies, by going global you are exposed to a new class of enemies, and they are a much more dangerious threat, one you may never see or be able to confront. Jim

What is there to be afraid of? Assault? Murder? Rape? Robbery? Burglary?

If you read the statistics, you will see most of the crimes committed are by a family member or someone who lives nearby. Criminals don't need to see your Facebook profile to commit their deeds.

As the use of social media has expanded widely over the last ten years, crime has dramatically decreased in the U.S.

I am not saying there is a cause-and-effect relationship. But there is no indication that the use of social media exposes oneself to more crime.

You could make the argument that the more connected you are to other people, the less vulnerable you are to crime.

YES, think about it, your family members are on Facebook, be afraid, be very afraid. (Elmer Fudd voice)

My dislike of facebook comes from data mining, and the fact that every other post is a ad site. Then there's the Wimp spam sprinkled every third post, then the posting of causes that have only the reason to cause ineffective replys, but are really more data mining.

In the beginning Facebook had a function, that function has been redirected into commercial waste of time. Jim

HAVE never used Twitter or Facebook.
WILL never use Twitter or Facebook. (or any of the "other" social medias)
There's nobody there I want to interact with, anyway.
This forum and a couple of others are about as far as I'm willing to go.

Four years ago they caught an escaped killer across the street from where we live. I chronicled it here on the forum at the time.
Personally, I'm not afraid. (my security system is provided by Smith & Wesson)

The bad thing about signing up for a service on the internet, is many sites are designed purposely without a OFF SWITCH, for example of a BAD site, Classmates dot com, but applies to way too many. They hook you with the promise of free, then if you decide to opt out, you are Spammed for life, all for providing your email. I am currently under attack by a spammer that got my email and sends unwanted emails, headed with my email in the header, 40 per day 24/7.

The only cure is to change your email a PITA, I run spam remover programs, but many spammers have found ways around them. Too bad when the NSA is reading your emails they can't go after spammers, at least what they do wouldn't be a total waste of time and money! Jim

It seems like they go in cycles, too. Sometimes it's porn, sometimes it's investment alerts/suggestions, and on and on. Here lately I've been getting some "Notice to appear" emails from some bogus court clerk.......with a .zip file attached. Uh, NO! Not gonna be curious enough to even attempt to unzip or even peek into any of those.
One of the many things I like about Thunderbird email is that it won't automatically open HTML code or attachments unless I click on a button and tell it to.
I've never used an anti-virus software on my home computers.......and, have never been "infected".......so far.

Ahhhhhhh....... I stumbled on this supposedly informative "web site" strictly by accident; thankfully accidents that lead to a group of individuals who do not seem to know nearly as much as they profess are infrequently encountered.

Either Cathy (and others) do NOT receive their units through MEDICARE ..... the MEDICARE who has strict guidelines regarding "COMPLIANCE" -OR- perhaps she/they were not informed of WHY "COMPLIANCE" is SO IMPORTANT! I seriously doubt the provider did NOT explain what is required since providers of equipment DO NOT get paid until Medicare patients ARE "COMPLIANT".

MEDICARE REQUIRES........... "...a MINIMUM of FOUR HOURS USE PER DAY ......... "in 21 out of 30 days". Less than "21 days out of 30" and the patient will NOT receive authorization (NO PAYMENT to provider) . I'll not go on and on since even IF someone sees this 'rant' I seriously doubt they will give a hoot. IF someone 'cares' they will go look it up anyway!

I'll close with, "TERMINOLOGY" is a strange animal in medicine. You NON-MEDICARE folks MAY still have a "COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENT" through YOUR insurance; if NOT consider yourself lucky. And as far as the "FREE PROGRAM to help keep you up to speed on how well you are performing ........ if you don't LIKE IT (as in: "MyAir.com -- PissedMeOff.com more like it") .......... Jesus H. Khrist DON'T USE IT!
