Sleep Disorder???
Sleep Disorder???
I've done a lot of searching online and unfortunately can't come up with anything.
Does anyone know of any potential sleep disorders that could be there even with successful CPAP treatment? I have terrible brain fog even after being on a CPAP machine for over 7 years. I have seen many different doctors...my Endocrinologist said he thought I had "unresolved sleep apnea". So I went back to my sleep apnea doctor and had another sleep study and everything was fine (this was after being on the machine for about 4 years). Again, I've been using my machine for over 7 years and am a "seasoned" veteran when it comes to sleep apnea and being used to sleeping with a mask and machine.
So I really feel like I am sleep deprived...like I never really wake up. It's kind of strange but it seems like I only wake up at a 90% level. I call it brain fog because I don't really know what else to call it but I feel like you do after you get really tired. How you get foggy, jumpy, and a little disoriented. The only thing is...I feel like this every day throughout every hour I am awake.
I have been to many doctors over the years...I've had CT scans and MRI of the brain, been tested for dementia (I'm 49), had my thyroid drugs adjusted (from synthetic to natural and dosing differences...I do have Hypothyroidism), have had I think 4 sleep studies, and nothing has worked. I have even been tested for adrenal fatigue.
So has anyone ever heard of something where even though someone is being treated for sleep apnea, they still have the symptoms of being sleep deprived? I get 8-9 hours of sleep every night and I don't wake up at all in the middle of the night. Again, since I have been wearing a mask for so long, I am very used to it so it doesn't bother me.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Dave

Re: Sleep Disorder???
You need to post your equipment in your profile under user control panel top left corner. Then you need to post your data reports. Maybe you just need some adjustments.

Re: Sleep Disorder???
Equipment updated...got a new machine about a year ago.
I don't have the data...I don't think they gave me my report last time I had it done. Since it's been going on for so long and I've been through 3 machines and 4 sleep studies, I thought maybe would could brainstorming on possible ideas assuming we have the sleep apnea treatments stable. I know that's a big assumption but there is little I can do about adjusting it at this point and I'd like to see if others had something else going on that they found.
Thanks for the comments.

Data from your nightly xPAP use would be helpful toward answering the question specifically for you.
I believe that our tendency toward obstructive events and ventilatory instability vary greatly from night to night, week to week, month to month, season to season, year to year. I have noticed that many "events" are sub-clinical (are not picked up by the machine software) in nature but do affect daytime performance.
Probably the machine is helping. Probably your lifestyle and/or therapy can be adjusted for better performance.
Have a great week!

Go here and you will see a link to download Sleepy Head. It is down toward the bottom of Pugsy"s post on the left. Read Pugsy"s pointers and you will learn how to check your own data from your machine. Not all doctors keep track of your data. Maybe yours does but it is still nice to be able to check for yourself. I am sure you will get valuable help here. I am probably the dumbest one here so I won't be a lot of help. But welcome and hang in there until some smarter members get to you.

Re: Sleep Disorder???
The good news is that you have a good machine that records your data.

Re: Sleep Disorder???
I am using a Mac and can't get it to import any data. I've seen that there were problems with the 60 series of machines but I have a 560P. Does anyone know if this version of the machine works with Sleepy Head?
Thanks.
Dave
Thanks.

Re: Sleep Disorder???
I installed it on my Windows machine and I'm getting the same message "No CPAP Machine Data Imported". It is reading the machine Brand, Model, and Serial Number but no data. I am pointing to the root of the SD card.
Bummer!

You haven't stated in your posts what your pressure settings are.kurrykid wrote:I've done a lot of searching online and unfortunately can't come up with anything.

When you had your sleep study, what pressure did they determine was best for you?
I see you have an APAP (Auto) listed in your profile. Are you using a range of pressures?

Re: Sleep Disorder???
It is set at 11. I am NOT using a range of pressures. It is constantly set at 11 throughout the night.
Thanks.

That rules out one possibility that the pressure changes are disturbing your sleep.

OK, I got it to work by downloading the update on Amazon. Now to figure out the essential data and what will help to determine the good, the bad, and the ugly!
Thanks.

Re: Sleep Disorder???
You have a 560 machine.
What version of SleepyHead are you seeing in the upper left hand corner?
It needs to be 0.9.3 for the Windows version for the 560 machine.
Did you do the Patch file? The Patch file takes it from 9.2-1 to 9.3.0.
If you don't have 9.3...go back to the SleepyHead install hints and pay special attention to the Patch file information.

Re: Sleep Disorder???
If you haven't discussed this with your doctor or if they haven't mentioned it, you might see if they can order an overnight pulse oximetry. A local DME would give you a pulse oximeter to wear (clips on the finger) during the night and then they download the data to see if your blood oxygen is falling below normal ranges. And, this typically doesn't cost anything.
