Wipes, wipes, wipes...

Post by acer0001 » Mon Apr 08, 2013 5:30 pm

I have been on the hunt for a replacement for the expensive CPAP wipes. I have checked the stores all over and when I look at the ingredients list for every baby wipe that I can find (even sensitive types) include aloe leaf extract. I can narrow it down to the non-alcohol ones, but aloe is in every one of them. What brand wipes do you guys use? Any bad experiences with certain brands?

I have been a CPAP user for about a year now.

Thanks!

I use the Pampers Thick Wipes for Sensitive Skin. There are generic brands without the alcohol or aloe. Look for any wipe for sensitive skin.... or sensitive baby butts....

Target's generic brand (Up and Up) disinfecting wipes. Logo is a light blue arrow pointing up and right.

Thanks for the reply Sheriff. I checked the ingredients list for the sensitive brands and they all have the aloe leaf extract in them. Is this the same as having true aloe in them? Is aloe extract different?

Ok... the package says "No Alcohol" and YES it does say "Aloe Barbandensis Leaf Juice".

Does anyone know if the Aloe Leaf Juice is the same as straight Aloe? I have never encountered any film of any sort. Seems to me a "juice" will not leave a film, but I'll wait until others weigh in. Dang packaging. The ingredients have about three different languages all mixed in.... oh well...

Alcohol. Some think it degrades the silicone parts. And aloe leaves a film that makes it slippery instead of the natural tackiness which provides a good seal.

Soap and hot water works for me, but takes more effort.

I use wipes for the mask and soap+hot water for the cushion. Some days I use wipes only if I didn't wash the cushion in the morning. I don't notice any difference in leakage with s/w clean in morning versus wipes about 10 minutes before retiring. I always follow the law and sheriff said these pamper wipes are okay...

I wonder if the amount of aloe differs in different brands.
If a wipe is not making a noticeable film, I'd say keep using it.

I can't find a link to include but I've been using a generic house brand from Wal-Mart. I'm pretty sure they're alcohol and aloe free and a decent size package only costs something like 89 cents.

Plus one for the blue label sensitive type from cvs. Just picked some up as mine had aloe (oops). Thanks to that recommendation. The hard plastic refillable box was on sale for a few cents off today.

Remind me again, why do you need wipes?

I just use a Free & Clear dish soap to clean the mask daily and periodically the tube & headgear. Should I use a wipe to dust off the machine and long hose? I've just been using a clean damp paper towel occasionally.
