Me too...usually (well with socks)! Our typical highs are low 50s with lows in the mid-high 30s at this time of year...this is so unusual!

Don't freeze your toes - give in and go to boots if you can find them : )

LOL< Ya'll are so funny. Its wet, icy and sleet here in South Carolina on the coast. All the schools were closed today and most people just stayed inside.

OK, I was wrong about the number of sand trucks, they're using 45 trucks and it's still not nearly enough...of course, we've got inches of ice on some of the roads with several places on the interstates shut down. One jacknifed 18-wheeler (upright but diagonal) has blocked that place on I-285 (circles around Atlanta) since noon! As they explained with hard, dry ice the chemicals are pretty useless...needs a bit of moisture to work.

Have also been thinking about you today Muse.
Still hope all is well.
The storm was east of south tex, so we're ok, but it's cold for us, going down into the twenties.
Hope you can stay home tomorrow and watch it all happen from a nice warm chair with a cup of hot cocoa.

Muse...
They use rock salt here... which works to a point (depending on temp and/or the amount of sunlight). Sand will work for traction if it's colder or has less sunlight.
The chemicals that they use here need to be spread prior to the storm.

I will stay here in Florida and enjoy wearing shorts and flip flops. As a native of New England I have had all the cold and snow I ever want to see. At this time I am wondering where my cousins are. They were supposed to leave NH on the way to Florida on Sunday. They opted to delay and left Monday morning. Last report yesterday morning they were just around Worcester Mass. I was unable to contact them after that. They must have turned off the cell phone. I think they were going to get as far as possible then stay put until it was safe to drive through to Florida.
My heart goes out to those in the storm area. I fully understand the impact of severe snow/ice storms. It must be harder still for those in the south who are not used to it.

Laura

We're having HORRIBLE weather in Florida today.
Been cloudy all day. Got down to 47 last night and they say it might rain this afternoon!!!

We are 40 minutes north of Atlanta--no one can even get out of the subdivision yet. We had 6 inches of snow and ice on top of that. The main road usually gets sanded/salted but has not so far. People make fun of us in the south running to the store at the first flake of snow, but once you have lived through some of this mess, you do what you have to do. We still have power (but boy, I am sure glad I broke down and bought a battery for my CPAP this year!) but in some previous ice storms we have been without power for a week. We also have natural gas, which is great--in many places it is not even available here.

Don't know when we will get out, but does not look good for today or tomorrow, and there is an arctic blast on the way to cool us off even more!

Stay safe everyone!

Oh.... And.... You've got a week to clean up the mess.

I'm going through Atlanta on my way to Mexico, and would appreciate it if there were no delays.

I am heading out today to finish my errands. Its wet and cold here but no ice. We have bridges to everywhere here in Charleston. So when they ice...they close down most of the major roads.

Well, nothing melted here at the house 'cept some of the icicles are now only 6-8". The frigid temps are moving in and the winds have increased; it'll be 19 in the morning with a wind chill in the single digits. One gust this afternoon freaked me out...sounded like some HUGE things were hitting the rood with LOUD thuds...turned out it was clumps of iced snow blowing off the trees, that was a relief! Can't get to our cars yet. All the interstates are finally open as well as all the entrances and exits open in the right directions (the police were using the entrances as exits to get people off the interstates). They've been playing a shot of some guy ice skating down Peachtree Rd downtown and one intersection @10th St is still closed as the ice is really thick. The skater was on ABC News at 7 PM. Brrrr....
