I use a nasal pillow mask, and have a low pressure or 7.ozij wrote:There are two types of rainout:
Hose rainout
Mask rainout.
Both of course end up in your nose/on your face.
Mask rainout is a result of water condensing on the cold mask surface.
It is not affected by machine placement.
It happens far more when person uses a nasal pillows mask
It happens far more when your pressure is lower.
It is affected by the amount of humidity supplied by the humidifier.

Re: Rain Out
I've used the SleepZone "Aussie" heated hose for three years and it's wonderful. The price if you're in the U.S. is $139.00 rather the $160.00 someone else mentioned. I never have water in my mask or the hose and I even added a regular two-foot hose between the heated hose and the mask because I needed a longer hose. (The heated hose is six feet.)

Re: Rain Out
Well I went with the Repti Heat Cable last night, and it was rather enjoyable. Nice warm air, and the humidifier on 3! And almost no rain out. (the only place I had rain out was the first 1 or 2 feet of the hose that had the cold lead of the cable.) The whole system including the timer strip was US$42! That should hold me over till Jan. when I get the S9.
Re: Rain Out
Osij is giving you good info.
Nearly all of my rainout problems are "exhaled breath" related....mask oriented. I solved the problem by inserting a thick, cotton string wick inside my nose-piece...to catch the pesky drip or two before they can "get me".

Re: Rain Out
My rain out was all up and down the hose. I would get a good 1/8 to a 1/4 cup water accumulating in the hose. With my new system I am getting moister but not accumulation.Gerald wrote:Osij is giving you good info.

Glad you got the rainout problem solved, Isrv.

Aussie heated hose is what I've used for years. If I didn't have it or needed another one, I'd go with the Repti heat cable.

Re: Rain Out
I am really surprised and pleased at how well the Repti cable worked. Another nice thing about it is, when I need to replace the hose I don't have to invest any more money into it. They need to come up with a cover like the Aussie Hose, but that you can slip onto any hose.rested gal wrote: Aussie heated hose is what I've used for years. Re: Rain Out
Good to read that the Repti Cable is working well for you, IsrvChrist! You may find that you get mask condensation when the weather's cooler. To help with that, you may want to get a cover for the small hose on your Swift LT nasal pillows mask. Karen at Pad A Cheek sells them: http://padacheek.com/PAC_Hosecover.html (bottom of page).

I will have to check them out. My wife is also an awesome knitter and sewer, so I need to see also what she could do for me.DreamOn wrote:Good to read that the Repti Cable is working well for you, IsrvChrist! For anyone interested in the SleepZone (Aussie) heated hose, I do see them occasionally on eBay and cpapauction. I purchased mine on eBay for about $60 as I recall. It was brand new, never opened.

Wow, great price on the SleepZone heated hose! Since mine is three years old, I would like a backup. I'll have to keep watch eBay. Thanks!DreamOn wrote:Good to read that the Repti Cable is working well for you, IsrvChrist! You may find that you get mask condensation when the weather's cooler. Re: Rain Out
Homemade is always nice! I knitted my hose cover. It's made from very thick yarn, so it's a bit heavy, but I have a hanging system that suspends the hose so it works well. I'm using it with my new S9 Autoset right now. I've posted the picture here before, but you probably haven't seen it:IsrvChrist wrote:I will have to check them out. I've also made small tubing covers using fleece fabric and made a special one for my Headrest nasal pillows mask.
A SleepZone heated hose recently sold on eBay for around $90. That one was new, as I recall. A few months ago, one sold on cpapauction for about $60. That one had been used one night. Search different ways, like "SleepZone," "Sleep Zone," "Aussie heated hose," etc. They turn up every once in a while.WearyOne wrote:Wow, great price on the SleepZone heated hose! I had thought about getting the heated hose for a few months, but I really didn't want to pay $140 for it. I had already spent a lot on masks, etc.! It was around 1 a.m., as I recall. It was one of those nights when I didn't feel sleepy yet, so I was just browsing at CPAP supplies on eBay, not looking for anything in particular. And there it was! With only minutes until the auction ended, I had to think quickly! I think there were only two other bids on it. It probably helped me that the auction ended at such an odd hour.
Re: Rain Out
I'm sorry to hear your DME is refusing to work with you. Did you have any luck with your insurance company and finding out if a new DME is an option?IsrvChrist wrote:I know we all have it, and the cure to it is probably lying with the missing link, but how does one try and combat this problem? I tried a hose wrap, didn't work. Shorted hose, didn't work. Tried the hose both down, and now up, even turning down the humidifier to 1, and it is still there. Getting a new machine is out of the question until Jan. because my DME flat out refuses to work with me, and since it will be totally out of pocket I need to wait until the new flex spending year. It is hard to maintain both the temp and the humidity in the room, due to the fact it is a room in the "attic" the When I got a nose full of water today, I about had it with the heated humidity, but I really need it because of my asthma. Any help or ideas would be welcomed.
Make sure you check out the auction site when you are ready to buy. The S8 Elite are usually very reasonable on there if you keep an eye out for a deal. Also I've seen S9's complete with humidifier go for under $500.
