Specialty CPAP Travel Bag/Carry On

Post by forumadmin » Tue Apr 26, 2005 3:32 pm

Howdy cpaptalk'ers,

It's too early to call it a trend, but there are more and more people making CPAP after market mods (snuggle hose, aussie heated hose) and making CPAP lifestyle products (custom cpap luggage, mask drying racks).

We are always watching closely to see which direction our customers want to move in and we'd like to know what you think. What elements would make a good CPAP Travel Carry On?

Aside from the specific poll question, what kind of aftermarket CPAP stuff would you like you see? What are some of subtle annoyances caused by all this CPAP equipment?

So far, I can't see purchasing anything else, as the carry case supplied has always sufficed.

Voted no.

The case my Resp A-Cflex HH came with should be fine. I don't travel much so would not have much need.

Subtle annoyances - cleaning the equipment! How about an aerolsol spray that kills all those unsightly germs (centipedes?) you could use daily then maybe once a month (year?) wash it for that sparkly new look again.

OR

A gas chamber. Yep, just put the equipment in a pot, push the button and a germ lethal gas is released. Five minutes later it's bedtime. Delux models come with a tap hook up for gentle rinsing and a drying fan.

OR

The Pill. Pop one in the humidifier or better still in the " Place germ killing, sleep enhancer, decongestant or other additives here. " compartment within the unit itself.

OR

An 8 foot long disposable (washable for environmentalists) baggie. Equipment, while still attached to xPAP, is inserted in baggie which is then secured to the unit. The DCD button is pushed and Voila, the unit cleans the equipment itself complete with steam from the HH, the pill (see above) and dried with reverse air flow.

OR

Discount coupons from the makers of Ivory and vinegar with purchase of any new mask.

If I were on the road a lot I would definitely be looking for something that would let me leave all the pieces in place, plug the unit into the wall, pull out the mask and hose and go to sleep without doing a lot of equipment setup. I would like it to have a smaller bag that I could put the hose & mask in for protection (the mask) and compactness (keeping the hose from uncoiling). Should be easy to get to the controls & humidifier water container (maybe the shelf it sits on, pivots at one end). Bag should be stabile enough that it won't fall over when the unit is in use. Don't know if it should be as small as possible, making it easier to carry with my regular carry-on luggage or be part of a full size carry-on piece, giving me extra room for other carry-on stuff.

If it had enough of these features, I would even buy it for my infrequent visits to the relatives. It would be nice to just open a zippered compartment, pull out the cord & plug it in. Then open a compartment on the other side and slide the machine itself out halfway where it would stay stabile for control access and water supply refill. A third zipper compartment would unzip giving me access to the bagged mask and hose (already attached to the machine.) ZIP, zip, zip, plug it in, put on the mask, turn it on and go to sleep. Reverse the process in the morning to keep all little niece & nephews out of the equipment.

The bag my remstar pro came with is perfect. Can't imagine a better design.

My ResMed case is really nice.
I am going to see if my 8 foot hose will fit in it though.

I have a Fisher & Paykel straight CPAP. The carry case is a bit of tight fit for the machine and my mask. Hopefully, I'll be getting the prescription for an autopap. I'll have to see what that case consists of.

I'd like to see some other accessories, such as...

1. Decorative CPAP Covers (like toaster covers)
2. CPAP Night Stand
3. CPAP Stand (attaches to back of headboard)
4. CPAP Rubber Mat w/Integrated Interface/Hose Pouch
5. CPAP Hose Cleaning Brush
6. CPAP Humidifier Drip Tray
7. CPAP Hose Hook (attaches to headboard)

I do travel. Not as much as some people but about 4-6 trips per year and 20ish hotel nights per year.

The cpap bag is inadequate for even this much travel. So I have wheeled luggage and put the cpap and associated stuff in there. It's one of those that fits nicely down an aircraft aisle. The main problem is that I also need to carry other stuff. Yeah, I am one of those guys trying to get 2 or 3 carryons onto a plane. Cpap bag, laptop bag, winter coat, crap I bought in the airport giftshop for the kids..

Unlike a lot of others, I travel every week. I have two CPAP units and I find that the Remstar bag fits my 420E with humidifier, hose and masks well. There is even enough room to take a plastic bottle filled with distilled water and a 3 plug adapter so the CPAP and humidifier can be plugged into one socket (sometimes a problem as motels don't put a lot of outlets in a room).

When flying, I also take a large suitcase and usually put the CPAP in the suitcase (with wheels) to minimize the lug in luggage.
