NASAL SWIFT QUESTION

Post by rxcpap » Thu Jan 25, 2007 2:14 pm

I like to sleep on my side. Anyone have any tips for use with the nasal swift mask? I get some leaks while laying on my side, wakes me up.

thanks

I had the same problem...my solution was a different mask. The CL2 and Twilight NP are good side sleeper pillow type masks. Some people on here sucessfully side sleep with the Swift but I could never manage it.

I use a duck down feather pillow, which is soft and forgiving, I place that over a folded up blanket so its the saame size as the pillow, place that under the down pillow, and mask works well that way, My wife sleeps with a foam pillow I tried that and doesn't work for me, turns the mask so I get air leaks.
I purchased my down pillow at a local store, they are quite common in most stores that sell bedding. Fluff that baby up in the morning and ready for zeez in the pm.

Do you have the side hose up like a snorkel??
Try tightening the upper straps a bit.
You may need to use a different size nasal pillow.

I use the hose strapped to the headgear upwardly. I am using medium size pillows, a snug fit, no leaks when laying on my back, but some when on my side.

I tried the swift and really liked it. However, I couldnt stand the price tag on it. You may want to look into the breeze or the comfort lite 2.
The breeze works excellent for side sleeping and I believe it also carries a money back guarantee.
Just by looking at it, you would think it is uncomfortable, but I love it.I dont even know I have it on. good luck, BTW it is a bit cheaper than the swift.

I've used the Swift from day one. I am a side sleeper and have no problems with the mask. I also use a feather pillow. I used the tip from Steve (you might try searching for the post) to use the hook side of Velcro on the inside of the lower straps. This keeps the straps from riding up and the seal holds better. Works well for a lot of us.

Bonnie: I just rigged up my swift the way you suggested, and it really seems like it would be better. I will try it tonight and see how it goes. Thank you so much for the tip. This is a really helpful site!

I have a down pillow, and it did nothing for my ability to use the swift. I could never get it to stay positioned correctly, and I am a side sleeper. I tried positioning the tube upward and holding it with the velcro strap, but it didn't help; the side with the tube was till "top heavy" and I couldn't keep the mask in place. I tweaked it all I could, but gave up iin frustration. I hope you have better luck, the Swift is a great mask and a lot of people love it.

There are down pillows, and then there are down pillows. Some have only a small percentage of duck or goose down, could make a big difference of softness. Just a thought.

Yes, there is quality down and not so high quality. My pillow was quite expensive, so I think it is high quality.
I just want to say that there is no guarantee that a pillow is going to solve the situation.

The only reason I am a successful cpap user (5 months) is because of this board. Because I read posts here I selected a Swift, and rigged up the scrunchie-on-the-wall holder for the hose. I use the velcro to keep the hose directed over my head and the scrunchie supports the weight of the hose and allows slack for all the tossing I do. I am a side/stomach sleeper and sometimes have trouble with leaks because of that but mostly have had satisfactory results.

Update on my progress:

I rigged up my hose with the velcro as suggested, bought a down pillow, use a scrunchie as well, and I have to say that now I am sleeping much better. The rigging helped tremendously as now I can move to sleep on my back or my side. I prefer my side and am having great success for now. Thanks to all you commented and helped me. I also use padacheeks, and they helped too. I think I finally have my system tweaked enough to relax and sleep well.

rxcpap:

Glad to hear the "tweaking" is bringing YOU success! Sometimes it just takes persistance and a little help from your friends!

All the best!
