Aerophagia No More!

Post by zonker » Thu Mar 05, 2020 12:26 pm

for the past 3 1/2 weeks, i've been taking Turmeric Curcumin complex plus Black Pepper extract. i take 1000 mg per day at breakfast. from the very first night, i no longer have aerophagia.

fight me!

i say this because i know that this is a fact based forum. and i say that jokingly because i can find absolutely nothing on the internet to support what has happened to me.

i know there are a few people here and in the past that are very keen on "alternative medicine". i'm not one of them. on the other hand, i'm not so hidebound that i only adhere to medical science, either. if i did THAT, i wouldn't be here on this forum.

the only things that i can find regarding Turmeric/Curcumin and it's impact on the body speak of things like GERD and inflammation. i believe i saw once article talking rather passingly about it's benefits in aiding digestion.

but NOTHING regarding aerophagia itself.

one other thing and it's rather important. this concoction is known to be a blood thinner. so anyone already on blood thinning medication should probably avoid it. (DUH!)

another thing i should mention. i was diagnosed summer of '19 with a slight hiatal hernia. i have no idea if this is even relevant to this topic or not. oh and the gerd i have isn't a very high amount and almost never interferes with my sleep. i try to avoid the foods that can spark gerd.

so, my fellow zoo critters, what do you think? is this just a coincidence? could it be that it just took me 4 1/2 years to get over aerophagia? or is this the discovery of the ages?

i await your responses.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Discontinue the product for 30 days and see what happens. You can always restart at any time (or not).

One time I bought new shoes, then later that day I got a papercut on my left index finger.

Coincidence? Oh, I think not!

Just sayin'.

"Aerophagia No More" is a decent enough slogan to make it onto to a t-shirt, though.

I once got kicked out of a meeting of the Statistical Association. And I'm never going back there again.

Huh. That is interesting. I'm not one who's typically into alternative medicine myself either, but I've seen and experienced a few things that keeps my mind open. It could be a coincidence, but then according to one site I'm reading, turmeric is supposed to help "calm" the upper digestive track by getting rid of gas. So if you were having a problem with gassiness in your stomach or small bowel that was contributing to you being prone to experiencing aerophagia, then yeah, I can see how that would help.

Very interesting. I have not used my CPAP in a week because of aerophagia. I’m on Eliquis which is a blood thinner. So I guess I should not try the turmeric. Though maybe it would be OK with Eliquis and just contra indicated if one is taking Coumadin.

What brand and strength of turmeric did you use?

I have considered giving it a shot . . .
BUT!
"Interactions
If you are currently being treated with any of the following medications, you should not use turmeric or curcumin in medicinal forms without first talking to your health care provider.

Blood-thinning medications: Tumeric may make the effects of these drugs stronger, raising the risk of bleeding. Blood-thinners include warfarin (Coumadin), clopidogrel (Plavix), and aspirin, among others.

Drugs that reduce stomach acid: Turmeric may interfere with the action of these drugs, increasing the production of stomach acid:

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Famotidine (Pepcid)
Ranitidine (Zantac)
Esomeprazole (Nexium)
Omeprazole
Lansoprazole (Prevacid)

Drugs for diabetes (that lower blood sugar): Turmeric may make the effects of these drugs stronger, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)."

CG's response is the best regarding determining if Turmeric and Black Pepper is responsible for your Aerophagia.

I'm in the corner that if you stop taking it, you'll continue just fine. And as an added bonus, just get some garlic and you can make some great chicken wings.

That happened to me once so I didn't buy a new pair of shoes again for 30 days. Tried another pair of new shoes, and guess what? Got a paper cut on my right index finger. Ughhhh! No more new shoes for me. I'll stick with my alternative worn out old shoes.

Am I recalling correctly that you were the guy with no feet? Or no shoes? Disproven when you posted a picture of your feet in black socks.

That's me. My one claim to fame. Warhol always said I'd get my 15 minutes one day. I just had no idea it would be in a CPAP forum.

so, this is a legitimate question, because i suck at "gotcha" questions and think they are rather rude.

believing that the complex i take is eliminating my aerophagia is magical thinking.

yet believing that i spontaneously shed my aerophagia after four plus years of enduring it isn't magical thinking.

which do you think it is?
